  1. FY17 summary

    Associated Project(s):

    During seven Friday evening “Illini Lights Out” events in the 2016-17 academic year, teams of student volunteers switched off more than 11,000 fixtures and closed windows in campus buildings around the Main Quad at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. One bulb at a time, this small action taken by more than 200 students saved campus about $3,400 in energy costs — not to mention lengthened the lifespan of several thousand lightbulbs.

  2. Eco-Olympics update

    Associated Project(s):

    Eco-Olympics is off to a great start to our 2017 competition! In order to increase student participation, we created a prize for the hall with the highest amount of participation. We have 11 buildings in the competition and 110 total number of students signed up to participate. You are invited you to look at the current results by going to the following page: https://buildingos.com/s/illinoisurbanachampaign/storyboard217/?chapterId=864.

  3. Rates of participation in Eco-Olympics by residence hall

    Associated Project(s):

    Hello Eco-Olympic followers!

    It's not too late to sign up! For those who have their team up and running, I highly encourage you all to meet before spring break begins. Once we get back, the competition is on! If you let me know the time and place, I can bring shirts to hand out.

    Here is the count of participants signed up for each hall:

    Remember that each person signed up gives your one point towards the participation price! Have some tabling events to get people interested!

    Best,

    Jessica Mondello

  4. Conservation Budget Recommendation (ECONS003) - Transmittal to the Council

    ECONS003 Conservation Budget Recommendation was transmitted to the Office of the Provost on March 6, 2017. The Council discussed the recommendation at this meeting.

  5. Building Level Energy Consumption Report

    Associated Project(s):

    1) We used total energy use by year in MMBTU (FY08-FY2016) and created a bar chart. Then we converted the MMBTU to BTU, and divided the number by GSF to get the energy use intensity (EUI). We used both bar charts and added them to the presentation for the Lincoln Hall.

    2) We made a research to find out what Notable Energy Events occured in the Lincoln Hall:

    • FY09 T-12 to T-8 Lighting Retrofit;
    • FY11-12 LEED Platinum Renovation;
    • FY14 Retrocommissioning;
    • FY15 ECIP winner;
    • FY16 Illini Lights Out pilot.

  7. Freezer Challenge launching January 15, 2017

    U of I Campus Labs Encouraged to Join Freezer Challenge

    Members of iSEE’s Energy Conservation & Building Standards Sustainability Working Advisory Team (ECBS SWATeam) invites U. of I. labs of all shapes and sizes laboratories on campus to register for the North American Laboratory Freezer Challenge, which uses friendly competition to optimize sustainability of freezer management in laboratories.

    Any type of laboratory is eligible to participate by working at its own pace to implement optimal cold storage management practices that save energy. Participating labs from the Illinois campus will receive special recognition from iSEE at the annual Sustainability Week Celebration and find themselves one step ahead toward Green Lab certification, a proposed program being discussed on campus and at iSEE. The competition has updated the awards to include individual lab awards, including a picture in Nature!

    Register by Jan. 15. More details can be found at the competition website >>>
