Projects Updates for Sustainability iCAP Portal

Search tips:
  • This form will search for words in the title OR the description. If you would like to search for the same term(s) across both the title and description, enter the same search term(s) in both fields.
  • This form will search for any of the words you enter in a field, not the exact phrase you enter. If you would like to search for an exact phrase, put double quotes (") around the phrase. For example, if you search for Bike Path you will get results containing either the word Bike OR the word Path, but if you search for "Bike Path" you will get results containing the exact phrase Bike Path.

  6. iCAP Portal Admin Meeting - September 9, 2022

    Associated Project(s):

Michael's updates to the iCAP Portal:

    • Project Creation/Update page: added checkboxes for "Make ____ field collapsible" for each textarea (Description, Background, Conclusion)
    • Project page: added a fallback message when there’s no content in the center column so the right-hand sidebar doesn't show up in the middle (e.g. Reduce Emissions from Travel)
    • Project Header Layout (e.g. LEED Certification project): added padding below header image
    • Theme pages (e.g. Energy theme page)
      • Added padding between Project Hierarchy & Other Projects
      • Moved to live site
    • Set "Standard Project Layout" for all projects w/o a Project Layout already set
    • Started work on advanced project search, see Project Search (DEV)

    TODOs:

    • Theme pages (e.g. Energy theme page): make description collapsible (may not want this any more - TBD)
    • Theme pages (e.g. Land and Water theme page): can we put a max height on the images so portrait images aren't enormous?
    • Projects Updates page: make search tips collapsible and put them after fields
    • Project Search (DEV): order of search fields should match table columns
    • Discuss metrics at next meeting
      • Metrics with lots of data
      • Outdated metrics
      • Fun with math (e.g. combining multiple metrics)
    • Show the recent project history of the project Associated with an iCAP Objective on that Objective’s page
    • Review the look of the related files on the Fancy Project Page layout at our next meeting. Right now, it looks like this:
Screenshot of Related Files and Related Files (Private) listing from a project using Fancy Project Layout
  7. iCAP Portal Admin Meeting - August 12, 2022

    Associated Project(s):

Michael showed updates to the iCAP Portal:

    • It's safe to delete Collections; tested on dev to confirm it doesn't break anything.
    • Project Collection page: fixed bug where project hierarchy showed all Collections for each project rather than only current Collection.
    • Create project page: fixed bug where input fields were overflowing their containers in Firefox.
    • The Projects by Project Status listing now allows you to select how many projects to view at a time, including All. There is also a “Download list of projects as CSV file” link below the listing, which includes the URL as its own column, since CSV files can’t include clickable links.

    TODOs:

    • Theme pages (e.g. Dev site Energy theme page)
      • Padding between Project Hierarchy & Other Projects
      • Make description collapsible
      • Move to live site once other changes completed
    • Project Header Layout (e.g. LEED Certification project)
      • Add padding below header image
    • Project Creation/Update page
      • Add checkboxes for "Make ____ field collapsible" for each textarea (Description, Background, Conclusion)
  8. iCAP Portal Admin Meeting - July 15, 2022

    Associated Project(s):

Michael showed updates to the iCAP Portal:

    • Added instructions below each map on live site
    • Added image gallery for each theme, e.g. Dev site Energy Theme page (currently on dev2, not yet moved to live site)
    • Metrics: removed "(Tracked by ...)" from titles
    • New Project nodes default to "Sticky at top of lists" so they show up at top of search results
    • Collections: changed Project Updates to look like other 3 sections; show only 1 update
    • Collections: migrated Collections page updates to live site
    • Image Gallery: made bg behind images white instead of blue, so transparent images don't have blue background

    TODOs:

    • Confirm it's safe to delete Collections on a dev site before deleting Collections on live site
    • Project Collection page bug: project hierarchy shows all Collections for each project rather than only current Collection
    • Create project page bug: input fields are overflowing their containers in Firefox
    • Show listing of public/private projects
  9. iCAP Portal Admin Meeting - June 24, 2022

    Associated Project(s):
    • Michael will look into automation options for filling in the Menu Settings Parent Item (for breadcrumbs) automatically from the Project Parent field
    • Michael will also look at possibilities for expanding the menu length, beyond the built in limit that drupal includes by default
    • The menu settings
    • Is there a way to make sure every project has "sticky at top of lists" automatically? Michael will check - Drupal treats them all as a node, so he can see if Projects can start with "sticky" by default
    • He fixed the image rotation issue
    • On the header layout, he added a view gallery link and moved the project name to align with it. The view gallery link on header layouts shows up even if there are not images associated - so what should we do?  We can add help text for the layout options, to note how it works (related to images, and possibly other things) - we added this in this meeting.
    • Add a third layout called "Fancy Project Layout" - mirror the Header Project Layout and keep the Gallery in the Fancy Project layout, but remove it from the Header layout
    • We also looked
  10. Request to Use Learning Materials in Land & Water Theme

Below is sustainability intern, Alec McKay's permission request to use Jonathan Tomkin's lecture materials for the Land & Water theme. Professor Tomkin gave permission for his materials to be published on the theme page.

    Hi Jonathan!

My name is Alec McKay, the guy who messed up scheduling the ENSU 310 final last semester, and I’m an intern working for Morgan White, the Associate Director for Sustainability. We’re working on updating the primary projects on the iCAP Portal. Here is an example of what the primary project page for the Land & Water theme looks like: https://icap.sustainability.illinois.edu/project/responsible-stewardship-campus-land-and-water

Our target audience is incoming freshmen and current students who are interested in sustainability at UIUC but have little to no knowledge about it. One of the things we want a primary project page to do is provide some motivation and background information for the theme. In the context of Land & Water, we’d like to answer the question, “Why conserve water?”

I think some of the videos from your Introduction to Sustainability Coursera course would be great for this! May I have your permission to put some of the videos from your course on the iCAP Portal? I don’t know how the copyright and intellectual property laws work, so is there any specific way you would want or need to be credited?

If you want more information regarding what we’re changing on the iCAP portal, feel free to let me know!

    Thanks!

    Alec

  14. iCAP Portal project entries

We would prefer to keep the ability to add new projects to a very limited few people.  Instead of giving Liz access to add a project, let’s get a quick process to add them upon her request.

    1)      Please email me, Meredith, and Sarthak with a short project description, and the proposed new iCAP Project location in the hierarchy.

    2)      Meredith and/or I will confirm the placement in the hierarchy.

    3)      Sarthak will add a blank private project as a placeholder and email you.

    4)      Liz or anyone in the SSC with access will fill in the project information and change it to public.

    2. Meredith and/or Morgan will confirm the placement in the hierarchy.

    3. Sarthak will add a blank private project as a placeholder and email Liz.

    4. Liz or anyone in the SSC with access with fill in the project information and change it to public.

  16. Real-time energy dashboards now available

After discussions with Michael McKelvey at MSTE and Aaron Mason and Ian Bonadeo at Hawkeye Energy Solutions, since Morgan White put them in contact back in April, the ECE building’s energy dashboards are now available without requiring a login and via domain name rather than IP address! Here are the dashboards:

    ECE Building – Energy Dashboard

ECE Building – Net Zero Energy Dashboard

You can view the listing of dashboards currently available at the U of I Building Energy Dashboard Home Page.
