    The Engagement iCAP Team met on 5/1/2024 to discuss planning for the 2025 iCAP and membership updates for AY 24-25. The team also reviewed student feedback from the iCAP Kickoff & Green Globes Event.

    The iCAP Engagement Team met on 04/18/2024 to review 2020 objectives, and discuss iCAP 2025 planning. The team will continue to add to the living documents and finalize them in May. The team also discussed the upcoming Sustainapalooza event.

Project Family

Description

The Engagement iCAP Team was formed in Fall of 2020 to communicate and elevate campus awareness of iCAP objectives and sustainability best practices.

The team is composed of faculty members, staff, and students who work collaboratively to support and recommend specific actions relating to the iCAP objectives with a particular focus on expanding and unifying distinct sustainability initiatives on campus.

Team members aim to connect silos of sustainability on campus, increase visibility of sustainability projects and research, and invite new students, staff, and faculty to embrace this culture.

The Engagement iCAP Team welcomes the opportunity to discuss potential actions, policies, and project recommendations to improve our campuswide reach and knowledge base.

SWATeams report annually on progress made toward Illinois Climate Action Plan objectives in their area of focus.

Background

This team focuses on the objectives found in Chapter 7 of the iCAP 2020:

7.1 Enhance the overall culture of sustainability on campus, and increase the number of certifications issued through the Certified Greener Campus Program by 20% each year from FY20 to FY24.

7.2 The Illini Union and Illini Union Board commit to 80% of their events qualifying as sustainable by FY24.

7.3 Increase visibility of campus sustainability efforts by joining the Green Sports Alliance through the Division of Intercollegiate Athletics (DIA) by summer 2021.

7.4 Incorporate sustainability-related problem solving in the GivePulse system for public engagement, and track local collaborations for sustainable solutions. Increase local collaborations by 10% per year from FY22 to FY24.

7.5 Support programs to develop love of nature and sustainability among children, with an annual Youth Sustainability Summit led by local teenagers with guidance and mentoring from campus and community sustainability leaders.

7.6 Update the iCAP Portal on a monthly basis to report progress toward iCAP objectives.
