Bike Parking on Campus (Hazelwood Path Improvements)

Project Description

This proposal looks to increase the use of bicycle transportation on campus. The project will expand bicycle parking and increase security for bicyclists by ~140 installing bike loops at top priority locations as determined by a campus wide survey and approved by the Committee. Additionally, at least 20-25 loops will be installed to increase available bike parking at the Illini Union, and pilot the use of permeable concrete. The project will also support the installation of bicycle air pumps at the Campus Bike Project at Pennsylvania Avenue and at the Illini Union. Additionally, the bicycle path along Hazelwood drive will undergo site improvements to encourage additional use, including the removal of obstacles and the installation of a bike crossing at Llncoln Avenue. These improvements to campus bicycle transportation infrastructure will be a visible effort to facilitate greater use of bicycle transportation over less sustainable methods and increase the awareness of campus commitment to responsible sustainable behavior. Thus, the Student Sustainability Committee is in favor of funding the fully requested amount of $36,000.
