KCPA Green Roof Feasibility Study

Project Description

This proposal seeks to install a pilot green roof plot at the Krannert Center for the Performing Arts. This 960 sp. foot installation will be of much lower cost, and with much lower maintenance requirements, as compared to the campus's first installation at the Business Instructional Facility. The installation will also build facilities experience with green roofs for other campus installation opportunities, such as at the Ikenberry Commons. The project is leveraging significant external funding, and will help the Krannert Center effectively fund-raise for its roof replacement and subsequently install a larger green roof installation. Furthermore, green roofs have positive impacts on air quality, reduce storm water runoff, decrease building HVAC energy use, increase roof lifetimes, provide valuable habitate and improve aesthetics. The installation will also work to increase awareness o the many other sustainability initiatives at the Krannert Center.
