Achieving Sustainability at Atkins Golf Course

Project Description

The Atkins Golf Club at the University of Illinois is in need of an environmental transformation to make
the course more sustainable and competitive. We are currently working in tandem with Atkins Golf
Course personnel to attain their goals of sustainability while maintaining competitiveness. This includes
invasive shrub removal, the creation of prairies, the planting of native shrubs, the removal of unhealthy
trees, the planting of native trees, bird box installations etc. It is beneficial for both parties that NRES is
involved to ensure proper native plants and trees are planted and sustainable management techniques
are applied while involving university undergraduates to gain knowledge and hands-on experience in
restoration.

This proposal directly funds:
1. Native Seed, Shrubs and Trees
2. Herbicide
3. Work Day Supplies
