UIUC Campus Wind Turbine Project

Project Description

We are installing a 20-kW wind turbine on campus, primarily funded by a $6 million U.S. Department of Energy grant. However, this grant doesn't cover three essential components: fencing for safety, a gravel road for access, and an electrical connection to the nearest power line. Additionally, we aim to restore the environmental ecosystem affected by the installation. We request funding from the Student Sustainability Committee to support these elements. This project will serve as a living testbed for sustainability, advance renewable energy research, promote environmental responsibility, and empower our students as future
energy leaders.

This proposal directly funds:
1. Contractual Design and Installation of Gravel Road, Fencing, Protection, and Electrical
Connection to Grid
2. Contractual Civil Prework
3. Installation of Native Plants
