Composting at Welcome Lunch 2026

Project Description

This project will bring composting services to the Welcome Lunch for the second time. Following the same model as in 2025, we will work with the company WasteNot to provide composting bins at the Welcome Lunch, which serves over 9,000 incoming students. Last year, 1,357 pounds of food waste and compostable paper materials were collected and diverted from the landfill at this event. This project is an opportunity to provide a sustainable food waste handling option for a large campus event. It is also an opportunity to show incoming students that sustainability is a priority for our campus.

This proposal directly funds the following. See approved budget for details.
1. Signage 2. Compost Transportation Bins, Tipping Fee 3. Volunteer Training with Vendor
