Boring Illini
Project Description
Boring Illini is a student-led initiative dedicated to designing and building a fully electric tunnel boring machine (TBM) that advancessustainable infrastructure innovation. Our vision is to reduce emissions and reimagine excavation technology for future urbantransportation. As a UofI student-led initiative, the project integrates engineering design, hands-on prototyping, and interdisciplinarycollaboration to push the boundaries of sustainable construction. Funding from the Illinois Green Fund will support key subsystems, such as electric propulsion and muck removal, that prioritize energy efficiency and environmental impact across the TBM’s full lifecycle.
This proposal directly funds the following. See approved budget for details.
