Sustainable Student Farm Electric Vehicle/LINC
Project Description
The project this team is intending to complete is the conversion of a gas powered vehicle to an entirely electric powered vehicle for the use of the Student Sustainable Farm for the transportation of produce from the Farm to the Campus Residence Dining Halls. By the completion of this project they hope to accomplish the following: Eliminate CO2 emissions during the transportation of produce to the Campus Residence Dining Halls from the Student Sustainable Farm, increased awareness of climate change on campus, increased visibility of the University of Illinois as a leading innovator in the climate change reversal process, and the reduction of fuel costs for the Student Sustainable Farm during the transportation of produce. One of their goals is for this vehicle to have a net zero energy impact. They are exploring two solutions to make this happen. The first is a grid connected solar array and the second is an off grid solar array with deep cycle batteries for energy storage. Both solutions cost about the same and are potential options for this project
