Project Description
Indoor Bin Update

This project will improve the recycling process in buildings around campus by encouraging sustainable actions and improving the layout of waste and recycling bins within these buildings. Facilities & Services collaborated with ISTC to make an “Indoor Solid Waste and Recycling Collection Assessment”. This assessment determined that the type and layout of collection containers in buildings across campus should be standardized. An update would enable them to be co-located and allow for greater infrastructure consistency.

Chemistry Annex Renovation and Addition: LEED Gold

The Chemistry Annex achieved LEED Gold Certification status on October 30, 2018. The project earned 61 out of 110 total points on the LEED v2009 New Construction scorecard. The Chem Annex renovation and addition earned a significant number of points in the Sustainable Sites and Indoor Environmental Quality categories. A further breakdown of points can be found in the USGBC directory and in the scorecard attached below.

Pedestrian and Bicycle Information Center

Supported by Federal Highway Administration and National Highway Transport Safety Administration, the program's mission has been to improve the quality of life in communities through the increase of safe walking and bicycling as a viable means of transportation and physical activity.

Bicycle and Pedestrian Program

The Federal Highway Administration's Bicycle and Pedestrian Program promotes safe, comfortable, and convenient walking and bicycling for people of all ages and abilities.

Provide Shower Facilities for Cyclists

Many encouragement programs for cycling address the needs of cyclists who choose to commute via bicycle.  In some cases, the cyclist arrives on campus feeling sweaty and would like to freshen up before beginning the work or school day.  To this end, it is convenient if showers are provided for bicycle riders to use on campus.  The Business Instructional Facility (BIF) and Lincoln Hall have bicyclist showers for the staff and approved users.  This option should be provided to other campus cyclists, to help encourage more bike riding.
