Biodiversity Improvements in the South Arboretum Woods
Project Description
This team aims at creating a biodiverse understory in the South Arboretum Woods. This will help the ecosystem host more native specialist moths and butterflies, which will help attract more birds. Campus is an important stopping point for migratory birds and hosts substantially more birds than the surrounding cropland, making providing them with nutritious native food a priority. This project is needed as there is an abundance of invasive species that are shade tolerant fruiting shrubs. By filling that ecological niche with native species, pressure from invasive species will decrease across campus.
