Electric Boat Competition

Project Description

As part of a UIUC senior design project, 12 mechanical engineering students will participate in the 2024 Promoting Electric Propulsion Competition hosted by the American Society of Naval Engineers. The ASNE PEP Competition challenges students to design, fabricate, and race an electric boat against other participating universities. This yearly competition aims to further sustainable and innovative values by promoting research into electric power propulsion. The competition takes place on April 15th, 2024, at Virginia Beach, and our team is seeking to build a functional final product and provide ample findings to future student teams.

This proposal directly funds:
1. Rudder, buck converter, wire, machining stock + labor, cable to attach the steering
2. Water pump, water container, PVC end cap, PVC cement, cooling tubes, fittings
3. Battery radiator, fans, battery, wire, connectors, crimping tool, butt crimps
4. 2 propellers, driveshaft, thrust bearing, waterproof bearing, trolling motor, GPS
5. Tape, foam, gasket maker, Bondo, elastomeric sealant, fasteners, glue, tarps
6. Aluminum sheet, carbon fiber, zip ties, Velcro
