Krannert Art Museum LED Lamp Retrofit
Project Description
This team is trying to upgrade the existing incandescent lamps to LED lamps in two of the main gallery spaces that are reinstalled several times a semester. In addition to participating in the campus's goal of becoming an all LED campus, this project will improve on sustainability by lowering the energy costs and waste for the museum. The museums showcases student works via the annual BFA and MFA shows in the Spring semster, where hundreds of students display their works. Students also work part time in the museum with the various installations, gaining valuable technical skills. The new LED lamps will impact the students understanding of what current lighting standards are and how the new lighting effects the art and environment in a positive way. The project will have a positive impact on campus by joining other buildings that are retrofitting lamps to LEDs. The main sustainable aspects of the project are the energy and cost savings to Illinois. These aspects are highlighted on pages 18-22 of the iCAP - Climate Action Plan (May, 2010).
