Research on the Impact of UIUC Campus Wind Turbine on Wildlife Ecosystems
Project Description
This proposal investigates the impact of a 20 kW wind turbine on birds and bats at Monticello Road Field Station (IL). Funded by ARPA-E, with prior SSC support for infrastructure, the research aligns with national and Illinois conservation efforts. The study uses advanced monitoring and real-time data analysis to identify and mitigate risks to state-listed species, including the Black-billed Cuckoo, Indiana Bat, Northern Long-eared Bat, and Upland Sandpiper. The project balances renewable energy development with wildlife conservation, ensuring sustainable solutions for greener energy production. This research will provide critical insights to guide future wind energy projects while reducing ecological impact.
