Uni High Native Prairie Garden

Project Description

The Ecological Restoration Coalition at Uni High has the main goal of expanding and transforming the Southeast lawn area of the school into a 3,000 ft2 mixed prairie garden. We are also designing a green wall between the Green Space and Springfield Ave. given the concerns about noise reduction and privacy. Our school community has expressed that the outdoor space needs to be more welcoming. The garden will transform the space into an outdoor classroom and harbor native plants, grasses, shrubs, and trees, including edible plants and fruits. This type of planting will restore the area into a tallgrass prairie.

This proposal directly funds the following: 1. Illinois native plants 2. Tool shed 3. Benches 4. Gardening supplies 5. Firepit 6. F&S wages for site preparation and site maintenance (2 years)
