The University of Illinois' Solar Farm 2.0 has been producing electricity for the campus since 2021. The 54 acre site is now home to some ground-breaking research plots in agriculture. 12 small plots have just been planted with soybeans, sorghum, and red clover between the rows of panels as researchers study how row crops will perform in the partial shad of the solar panels. This video shows the process of preparing the plots using a tractor, planting the seeds by hand, and adding sensors to each plot to study sunlight levels at the crop canopy level.
