The Master Gardeners are interested in adding rooftop solar PVs to the garden shed to the east of the Idea Garden in the Arboretum.

The Idea Garden currently lacks access to electricity, making garden maintenance a challenge. Since the Idea Garden’s mission statement is “helping others learn to grow,” the volunteer-led team only wants sustainable infrastructure added to its garden. To add utilities to the site in an environmentally-friendly manner, the Idea Garden staff and volunteers requested funding from the Student Sustainability Committee. They received $56,400 in December 2017 to install solar panels, giving electricity to the area.

This is a Student Sustainability Committee supported project.
