The U.S. Army Research Laboratory (ARL) of the U.S. Army Research Development and Engineering Command (RDECOM) is the Army's corporate, or central, laboratory. One of the main collaborative arms of the ARL is the Army Research Office (ARO). The ARO's mission is to serve as the army's principal extramural basic research agency in the engineering, physical, information and life sciences.
