This also prevented 5.9 metric tons of CO2 equivalent from entering the atmosphere, which is equivalent to the greenhouse gas emissions from 664 gallons of gasoline being consumed. That's a huge impact!

    At Friday's Illini Lights Out event,  2209 light bulbs were shut off that otherwise would have been left on all weekend, saving $336 in energy costs. This also prevented 2.7 metric tons of CO2 equivalent from entering the atmosphere, which is equivalent to the greenhouse gas emissions from 300 gallons of gasoline being consumed. That's a huge impact

  3. 10/18 Lights Out!

    Associated Project(s): 

    At Fridays Illinii Lights Out event, 2,223 light bulbs were shut off that otherwise would have been left on all weekend, saving $338 in energy costs. This also prevented 3.1 metric tons of CO2 equivalent from entering the atmosphere, which is equivalent to the greenhouse gas emissions from 349 gallons of gasoline being consumed. That's a great impact! 

  4. 9/20 Illini Lights Out!

    Associated Project(s): 

    At Friday's Illini Lights Out event, 2805 light bulbs were shut off that otherwise would have been left on all weekend, saving $426 in energy costs.This prevented 3.9 metric tons of CO2 equivalent from entering the atmosphere, which is equivalent to the greenhouse gas emissions from 438 gallons of gasoline being consumed. That's a huge impact!

    Associated Project(s): 

    At Friday's Illini Lights Out event, 7567 light bulbs were shut off that otherwise would have been left on all weekend, saving $1,151 in energy costs. This also prevented 9.1 metric tons of CO2 equivalent from entering the atmosphere, which is equivalent to the greenhouse gas emissions from 1026 gallons of gasoline being consumed. That's a huge impact!

    Associated Project(s): 

    At Friday's Illini Lights Out event, 4070 light bulbs were shut off that otherwise would have been left on all weekend, saving $619 in energy costs. This also prevented 4.9 metric tons of CO2 equivalent from entering the atmosphere, which is equivalent to the greenhouse gas emissions from 552 gallons of gasoline being consumed. That's a huge impact!

     

  7. 2/23/24 Event

    Associated Project(s): 

    At Friday's Illini Lights Out event, 3,686 light bulbs were shut off that otherwise would have been left on all weekend, saving $560.80 in energy costs. This also prevented 4.4 metric tons of CO2 equivalent from entering the atmosphere, which is equivalent to the greenhouse gas emissions from 500 gallons of gasoline being consumed. That's a huge impact!

    Associated Project(s): 

    At Friday's Illini Lights Out event, 2,995 light bulbs were shut off that otherwise would have been left on all weekend, saving $455 in energy costs. This also prevented 3.7 metric tons of CO2 equivalent from entering the atmosphere, which is equivalent to the greenhouse gas emissions from 412 gallons of gasoline being consumed.  

  9. Illini Lights Out event 12/1

    Associated Project(s): 

    At Fridays event, 8,987 light bulbs were shut off that otherwise would have been left on all weekend, saving $1,367 in energy costs. This also prevented 11 metric tons of CO2 equivalent from entering the atmosphere, which is equivalent to the greenhouse gas emissions from 1,236 gallons of gasoline being consumed. That's a huge impact!

     

  10. Illini Lights Out Event 11/3/23

    Associated Project(s): 

     At Friday's Illini Lights Out event, over 250 volunteers turned off 4,832 light bulbs that otherwise would have been left on all weekend, saving $735.16 in energy costs. This also prevented 5.9 metric tons of CO2 equivalent from entering the atmosphere, which is equivalent to the greenhouse gas emissions from 665 gallons of gasoline being consumed. 

  11. Illini Lights Out Event 10/13/23

    Associated Project(s): 

    At Friday's Illini Lights Out event, 6,020 light bulbs were shut off that otherwise would have been left on all weekend, saving $915.91 in energy costs. This also prevented 7.238 metric tons of CO2 equivalent from entering the atmosphere, which is equivalent to the greenhouse gas emissions from 828 gallons of gasoline being consumed.

  12. Illini Lights Out 9/29

    Associated Project(s): 

    At Friday's Illini Lights Out event, 6,059 light bulbs were shut off that otherwise would have been left on all weekend, saving $921.85 in energy costs. This also prevented 7.434 metric tons of CO2 equivalent from entering the atmosphere, which is equivalent to the greenhouse gas emissions from 833 gallons of gasoline being consumed. That's a huge impact!

  13. April 21, 2023 Illini Lights Out

    Associated Project(s): 

    At Friday's Illini Lights Out event, 4,145 light bulbs were shut off that otherwise would have been left on all weekend, saving $631 in energy costs. This also prevented 5.07 metric tons of CO2 equivalent from entering the atmosphere, which is equivalent to the greenhouse gas emissions from the consumption of 570 gallons of gasoline. That's a huge impact!

  14. March 24, 2023 Illini Lights Out

    Associated Project(s): 

    At Friday's Illini Lights Out event, 4,539 light bulbs were shut off that otherwise would have been left on all weekend, saving $691 in energy costs. This also prevented 5.55 metric tons of CO2 equivalent from entering the atmosphere, which is equivalent to the greenhouse gas emissions from 6,139 pounds of coal being burned. That's a huge impact!

     

  15. February 24, 2023 Illini Lights Out

    Associated Project(s): 

    At Friday's Illini Lights Out event, 4,850 light bulbs were shut off that otherwise would have been left on all weekend, saving $738 in energy costs. This also prevented 5.9 metric tons of CO2 equivalent from entering the atmosphere, which is equivalent to the greenhouse gas emissions from the average car driving 14,717 miles. That's a huge impact!

  16. February 10, 2023 Illini Lights Out

    Associated Project(s): 

    At Friday's Illini Lights Out event, 3,694 light bulbs were shut off that otherwise would have been left on all weekend, saving $562 in energy costs. This also prevented 4.5 metric tons of CO2 equivalent from entering the atmosphere, which is equivalent to the greenhouse gas emissions from 4,996 pounds of coal being burned. That's a huge impact!

     

  17. January 27, 2023

    Associated Project(s): 

    At last Friday's Illini Lights Out event, 5,043 light bulbs were shut off that otherwise would have been left on all weekend, saving $767.27 in energy costs. This also prevented 6.17 metric tons of CO2 equivalent from entering the atmosphere, which is equivalent to the greenhouse gas emissions from 694 gallons of gasoline being consumed. That's a huge impact!
