ARC Solar-thermal Panels

Project Description

This is a green project. It is designed to pre-heat domestic cold water prior to its introduction into the steam heat exchanger for the domestic hot water (showers and sinks). This system would significantly reduce steam usage for domestic hot water during normal operating periods. While each of the three areas of hot water usage (domestic, pool and air heatiug) have potential for use of solar-thermal panels, this project is the most pressing and efficient use of this technology. Engineering and design have already been completed by Solar Services and funded through Campus Recreation. This project helps reduce energy consumption that is supported through student fees. Facilities are very visible on this campus and are considered large users of energy. Having solar thermal panels will show the beginning of efforts to use renewable energy. The project falls in line with addressing the need for renewable energy sources on campus.
