Green Link at School of Art + Design & Krannert Art Museum Supplementary Funding
Project Description
The goal of this project is to construct a green roof atop the Link Gallery between the School of Art + Design and the Krannert Art Museum. This project will be implemented primarily by students and faculty of the School of Art + Design and will be in a highly visible campus location. It will help reduce energy costs at the facility and provide rain water for the surrounding gardens. This project was initially funded through a $63,900 grant awarded in Feb 2009, to be used for three project components - roof resurfacing, a rainwater catchment system and a modular green roof, with a $17,000 allocation toward the green roof. A structural assessment completed over Summer 2009 indicated that the roof was capable of holding a green roof 20% larger than originally planned on (432 trays instead of 360 trays). Given costs already spent on resurfacing the roof by both the Committee and Facilities and Services, the Committee is in favor of scaling up the green roof component of costs by 20% to allow for the largest possible installation at the site. Thus the Committee recommends additional funding of$3,400 to support this project.
