Green Observer

Project Description

The Green Observer is UIUC's only student-run environmental publication and runs out of Students for Environmental Concerns. This magazine is dedicated to shedding light on environmental issues around campus, and the students who make up the GO are passionate about sustainability and conservation. GO magazines contain articles ranging from politics to lifestyle, DIY to campus events, art, poetry, and photography. To continue to publish new issues and keep previous magazines up and accessible on the Issues platform, the Green Observer must pay a monthly subscription fee of $31.00. SSC has agreed to pay a one-time fee of $310.00 to allow 10 months of subscription services.

The Green Observer's mission is spreading awareness, which is one of the critical facets of addressing our environmental crisis today. Within the Green Observer, reaching people and informing them is a primary goal. GO wants to educate and encourage sustainable practices while highlighting the natural beauty of the world and the individual stories that are inspiring to environmentalists. The Green Observer also used to be a print publication, but as of 2018, we are entirely online to better align with our ideals and reduce our environmental footprint. Creativity and collaboration are key facets of the magazine. Additionally, GO uses an artistic approach to raise ecological awareness.
