Small Scale Anaerobic Digester

Project Description

Developing a working small-scale anaerobic digester with a membrane separation technology to collect separated carbon dioxide and methane that is an economically viable system for small farms. This allows for the farms to lower their carbon emissions and decrease the need for natural gas extraction by utilizing natural sources of cattle manure. It can also be utilized on the UIUC research cattle farms.

This proposal directly funds:
1. CO2/CH4 Separation Membrane, Plastic Material for Digester, Bacteria & Manure, Centrifugal Pump
2. Canisters of Methane, Canisters of Carbon Dioxide, Metal Piping (Non-Corrosive), Metal Materials
3. N2/CH4 Separation membrane, Compressors, Canisters for Produced Biogas, Wiring
4. Other Laboratory Equipment (pH Meters, PPE, Soldering etc.)
