Key Objective: 38. 2012 Campus Energy Study

Study, by December 2012, that examines campus energy generation and distribution systems, specifically elimination of coal use by 2017 and more efficient distribution of thermal energy (hot water distribution, regeneration, geothermal use). Explore waste-to-energy plants for electricity and steam generation.

Explanation

"A detailed study that examines campus energy generation and distribution systems will be made by 2012. The study will specifically identify the earliest possible date for the elimination of coal steam production. The study will also evaluate the potential for: 1) eliminating summer coal use in the near term; 2) eliminating all coal use by 2017; and 3) alternative means of generating and distributing thermal energy (hot water distribution, regeneration, geothermal looping) in the long term."
