Projects Updates for Recyclopedia

Search tips:
  • This form will search for words in the title OR the description. If you would like to search for the same term(s) across both the title and description, enter the same search term(s) in both fields.
  • This form will search for any of the words you enter in a field, not the exact phrase you enter. If you would like to search for an exact phrase, put double quotes (") around the phrase. For example, if you search for Bike Path you will get results containing either the word Bike OR the word Path, but if you search for "Bike Path" you will get results containing the exact phrase Bike Path.
  1. Recyclopedia Test Site

    Associated Project(s):

Here’s a link to the Recyclopedia test site for everyone to look over to make sure everything’s good before we make it live. https://azuretest.fs.illinois.edu/RecyclopediaSearch/

Just a couple of quick, initial feedback items on this…

If this will be a stand-alone page then it would benefit from at least a short executive summary – what is Recyclopedia about/goals -  and primary image (assuming this structure will be the case for populating the responses from search).  Then we would want to tether all the related pages to it as well to establish that incorporated page flow.

If you do not return a hit on a search, we should have some type of default contact information that encourages outreach through email if there are remaining questions (instead of just “no results”)

I would like to see the full list because I wasn’t able to find a few items I thought would be included (e.g., gloves). Overall, it seemed to work well and I was able to find information for most of what I searched for.  It would be nice if search data was captured to determine if new sections need to be created.

I have more suggestions, but just a few highlights:

    • The phone numbers are not to our style and would need to be redone to xxx-xxx-xxxx.
    • Use of related links, etc. should help use reduce the need for us to have to constantly use hyperlinks in the text body (e.g., work request, Service Office)
      • Should be a way to aggregate the main potential contacts and avoid redundant links (keep specific ones)
        • Or maybe build in a new section on this page specifically to address this issue – a floating footer (would take care of a majority of the links to just do WTS, DRS, etc.

Nice job, this will be a good resource and something that we can definitely help to rollout in the future. Let me know if you want to discuss this further.

  2. Zero Waste iCAP Team Meeting Minutes 1/26/2024

The Zero Waste iCAP Team met on 1/26/24 to review iCAP objectives and the statuses of our focused projects. Thurman Etchison and Daphne Hulse provided updates on Housing Recycling and Recyclopedia. Tim Knox provided updates on Green Sports Alliance membership, and the group discussed the current status of the Coca-Cola Buy-Back program and potential areas of improvement.

  3. Splitting item by personal property or university property

    Associated Project(s):

Daphne Hulse on Teams: Thanks for meeting with us yesterday! We're looking forward to it. One thing that Shreya and I discussed this morning, that may not have been a part of earlier Recyclopedia discussions: there are two categories of items that we work with, those that are considered "personal property" and those that are considered "university property", which impacts where items should be disposed. We have less than 10 recyclables that are disposed of through the Waste Transfer Station (ex: cardboard, paper), but there are many more obscure items (ex: mattresses) that would be disposed of elsewhere. It would be useful for our purposes to have a way to clarify this. This could be one of the additional "fields" or perhaps there is a way within the website to split the categorization by "tab," if that makes sense

  4. F&S ITS team + F&S zero waste meet to discuss next steps

    Associated Project(s):

Attendance: Matthew Fancher, Daphne Hulse, Nikkole Duda, Justin Pryor, Patrick Duda, Steve Breitwieser, Shreya Mahajan

    Introduction:

    • Nikkole: Business Analyst for IT with F&S, keep us on track
    • Matt: Web Developer, original Recyclopedia developer on Sitefinity
    • Justin: Software Developer with F&S
    • Patrick: Application Development with F&S
    • Steve: F&S communications contact working with ITS on the new website
    • Shreya: F&S zero waste intern, had the Recyclopedia initiative passed down to her from a previous intern

    Matt’s two options:

First option (within the existing website):

    • On the back end, the new website we can have a standard set of fields (title, description) whatever set of fields we need that we plug the information into
    • On the front end, it would be a part of the existing website (fs.illinois.edu/recyclopedia)
    • It would be searchable

    Second option (microsite):

    • Would get a URL (recyclopedia.fs.illinois.edu)
    • Have more control over what was on the front page
    • Things could interact differently, and as we wanted them to

    Discussion:

    • Steve thinks content within the F&S website would work well
      • The concern is the image sizing, which has come up on other pages
      • Come up with a style (post-produce) to make the photos more uniform
      • How will this integrate to the Waste Management & Recycling and zero waste and other relevant pages?
    • Time component, we could do the website stuff sooner and think about a microsite later

    Timeline:

    • Daphne proposes during fall semester
    • Matt suggests September 1 would be a wishlist deadline
      • Patrick suggests that the team do an internal review of the deadline and get back to Daphne/Shreya

    Sitefinity

    • Standard set of fields from Sitefinity, will all need to agree if these are kept or if there are more needed — on Microsoft Teams Nikkole will create a team page for everyone so we can overview the fields and agree
    • Steve suggests that we focus on a core amount of items (top 50) first before all of the random abstract stuff
      • We would need someone constantly managing it, if we didn’t cap it somewhere
      • Suggest recycling@illinois.edu as a place to ask additional specific questions for things that are not covered

Nikkole will get us set up on Microsoft Teams, so the ITS group can update us on their progress and receive feedback from us when needed.

    Thank you,
    Daphne

    Hi Daphne,

The link does not let me access the account. The setting normally used to login is under "ldap users" but this changed to "UOFI NetId". Putting the login information under "Default" or "UOFI NetId" does not let me access the site either.

    Hi Daphne,

My apologies for missing your last message. You will still be able to log in to the dashboard using the link below.

    https://archive.fs.illinois.edu/sitefinity/dashboard

We should probably get together and discuss moving the recyclopedia into our new website structure, as that is where our development efforts are currently going, and we can bring a more mature version forward there. I’ve tagged our Business Analyst Nikkole on this email, she would be a great point of contact if you don’t get a prompt response from me 😊.

    Hi Matt,

I wanted to follow up on this, as we attempted to log into the Recyclopedia editor (https://archive.fs.illinois.edu/Sitefinity/Login?ReturnUrl=https%3a%2f%2farchive.fs.illinois.edu%2fsitefinity) but were not able to gain entry using Net ID. Do you know if this would still be accessible to us?

    Thank you!

    Hi Matt,

I know things were/are crazy busy for you with the website redesign! Just wanted to reach out and see what the status is with Recyclopedia and what you might need from us for this project. We’d love to get it to a point where it can be utilized by the campus community.

    Thank you,

    Daphne

  7. Matt Fancher planning to make alterations to the format and layout

    Hi Pete,

Of the requested changes we can resolve 3 of them.

      *   Add pages and have 20 items on each page – NOT POSSIBLE
      *   Create a "featured" portion at the top of the page - POSSIBLE
      *   Have information on an object show when clicking the picture (right now it just enlarges the picture) - POSSIBLE
      *   Make pictures centered - POSSIBLE

I put some time in last Friday, and will hopefully be able to resolve these this coming Friday with a bit more time.

    Subject: Recyclopedia Changes

    Hi Matt,

I was wondering if you would be able to fix these few formatting issues in the Recyclopedia webpage through Sitefinity:

    • Showing 20 items to view on one page, and then 20 more on another page, and so on
    • Inputting a "featured" portion at the top of the page containing 4 items
    • When clicking on an image, instead of it being enlarged it shows information about the item

Would you be able to help with making these changes?

    Thanks,

    Shreya Mahajan

    Daphne,

I took a look at this back in July. I can share my feedback on this from a content and communications perspective.

Let me know if you want to go over those aspects. I do think there are some updates that still need to be made.

    Thanks.
