|Office of behavioral and social sciences research||
The missions of the office is to Enhance the impact of health-related behavioral and social sciences research, coordinate behavioral and social sciences research conducted or supported by the NIH, integrate these sciences within the larger NIH research enterprise, and Communicate health-related behavioral and social sciences research findings to various stakeholders within and outside the federal government
|Local Food Promotion Program||
The Local Food Promotion Program (LFPP) offers grant funds with a 25% match to support the development and expansion of local and regional food business enterprises to increase domestic consumption of, and access to, locally and regionally produced agricultural products, and to develop new market opportunities for farm and ranch operations serving local markets.
|Infrastructure Security and Energy Restoration (ISER)||
This program applyies the Department of Energy's technical expertise to help ensure the security, resiliency and survivability of key energy assets and critical energy infrastructure.
|Building Technologies Office||
The Building Technologies office leads a network of research and industry partners to continually develop innovative, cost-effective energy saving solutions in building design. Some of the relevant programs under the Building Technologies office include
|Resilient Agroecosystems in a Changing Climate Challenge||
This program funds research attempting to understand the interaction between climate variability and agricultural production systems to develop the plants, animals and management systems that will be robust and productive under changing environmental conditions while providing the important ecosystem services needed from these lands.
|Structural and Architectural Engineering and Materials (SAEM)||
SAEM aims to enable sustainable buildings and other structures that can be continuously occupied and/or operated during the structure’s useful life. The SAEM program supports fundamental research for advancing knowledge and innovation in structural and architectural engineering and materials that promotes a holistic approach to analysis and design, construction, operation, maintenance, retrofit, and repair of structures.
In FY11, the Retrocommissioning teams completed eight buildings. The Facilities & Services Retrocommissioning Team at the University of Illinois received the 2011 Illinois Governor’s Sustainability Award at a ceremony on Thursday, October 27, 2011. Established in 1987, this award has been presented to both public and private organizations that have achieved significant progress on projects designed to protect the environment and improve sustainability within the State of Illinois.
|Tomato Processing and Packaging||
The goal of the Sustainable Agricultural Food System is to further collaboration between the production activities of the Sustainable Student Farm; the teaching, research, and outreach activities at the Department of Food Science and Human Nutrition (FSHN); and Dining Services' goal of increasing procurement of locally grown foods. The specific action the project would take in order to support this goal would be purchasing tomato processing equipment.
|ICECF 2008 Lighting Retrofit||
The ICECF 2008 Lighting Retrofit was the first round of the T-12 to T-8 Lighting Retrofit Project. A total of 52,810 T-12 fixtures were replaced with thinner, more energy effiecient T-8 fixtures. This will incur a total Annual KWh Savings of 8,630,641 hours. Thirty-one university buildings were involved in this round of the project. The total Simple Payback is estimated to be 2.13.
|Energy Conservation Incentive Program (ECIP)||
For many departments on campus, energy and utility costs do not impact research, teaching, or departmental budgets. The academic departments are supplied with utilities through the campus administrative budget. For these departments, an incentive program has been implemented to encourage these units to conserve energy.
|FY09 SSC Bike Parking Upgrades||
The goal of this project is to provide standard bicycle parking at three locations on campus: Freer Hall, the Undergraduate Library, and the Agricultural Engineering Sciences Building. This will encourage bicycle riding and support the Campus Area Transportation Study (CATS) mission “to better accommodate pedestrian, bicycle, transit, and vehicle movements in a more user-friendly environment.” This is also one of the amenities recommended by the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign Multi-Modal Transportation Study recommendation to “provide other amenities to accommodate existing bi
