Projects Updates for iCAP 2025

Search tips:
  • This form will search for words in the title OR the description. If you would like to search for the same term(s) across both the title and description, enter the same search term(s) in both fields.
  • This form will search for any of the words you enter in a field, not the exact phrase you enter. If you would like to search for an exact phrase, put double quotes (") around the phrase. For example, if you search for Bike Path you will get results containing either the word Bike OR the word Path, but if you search for "Bike Path" you will get results containing the exact phrase Bike Path.
  1. Status update sent to iCAP Teams

The iCAP Topical Teams and iCAP Working Group were provided the following status update for the iCAP 2025 development process.

    Hello iCAP teams,

Thank you again for all that you did to support the Illinois Climate Action Plan this year.  I’m writing to share a quick update on the development of the iCAP 2025, and let you know the next steps we are taking.

Miriam Keep has developed a schedule for the creation of the actual iCAP 2025 document, which I’m summarizing here.  During the next few weeks, Miriam will be drafting the 2-4 page chapters using the information your teams have provided, and I’ll send them to the iCAP chairs and a few key stakeholders for a technical review. Then iSEE and F&S will work together to complete the draft document for formal approval by the Chancellor (or Interim) this fall.  The intention is to do a grand release during the Campus Sustainability Celebration, which is typically in October.

If you have any questions about this process, please feel free to contact me, Jen, Miriam, or your team’s chair.  I’m excited to see the next version of the iCAP!

    Thanks,

    Morgan

  2. iWG asked to review draft iCAP 2025 objectives

    Associated Project(s):

iSEE Sustainable Programs Coordinator Miriam Keep sent the draft iCAP 2025 objectives to the iCAP Working Group:

    ----------

    Hi iCAP Working Group members,

I am sharing the compiled list of draft objectives for the iCAP 2025. Morgan, Jen, and I are asking you to share these to review with your respective campus units/constituencies, and to send me any questions or feedback by Friday, April 25. I will consolidate all feedback for discussion at our April 29 meeting.

Thank you and please let us know if you have any questions.

    Have a great weekend!

    Best,

    Miriam

  3. iCAP 2025 input sessions

Our campus has made enormous sustainability progress under the 2020 Illinois Climate Action Plan (iCAP) Now we need your help identifying goals and priorities for iCAP 2025!

iSEE is sponsoring a series of input sessions throughout the fall where U. of I. students can share their ideas and learn about the objectives that the iCAP teams are considering, as well as the progress they have made so far. Join us to share your suggestions for moving our campus closer to net-zero carbon emissions!

  4. Fall 2024: Student iCAP course

Fall Course Available: Student iCAP! The goal of this NRES 285 section CAP course (CRN 56367) is to engage students in the development of a climate action plan specific to the University of Illinois. Students will take their plan and integrate feasible ideas into the Illinois Climate Action Plan (iCAP) 2025 and assist in the presentation of that iCAP. Taught by iSEE's Eric Green and Miriam Keep, the two-credit course meets 2-2:50 p.m. Tuesdays and Thursdays.

  5. iCAP history

    • The University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign formally committed to sustainability in February 2008, when Chancellor Richard Herman signed the American College and University Presidents’ Climate Commitment with Second Nature, pledging to be carbon neutral by 2050.
    • Illinois was the first Big Ten university to submit a climate action plan to Second Nature. The 2010 iCAP was approved by Interim Chancellor Robert Easter on May 10, 2010.
    • The iCAP Portal was established in May 2012 to track and share updates on campus sustainability progress.
    • Chancellor Phyllis Wise approved the Formal Procedures for Campus Sustainability in June 2014, creating the Sustainability Working Advisory Teams (iCAP Topical Teams) and the iCAP Working Group.
    • Interim Chancellor Barbara Wilson approved the 2015 iCAP and signed the Resilience Commitment with Second Nature.  Second Nature renamed the American College and University Presidents’ Climate commitment as the Carbon Commitment. As a signatory to both commitments, this campus is a signatory to the “Climate Leadership Commitments” at Second Nature.
    • The current version, iCAP 2020, was signed by Chancellor Robert R. Jones.  It includes 56 specific SMART (specific, measurable, achievable, relevant, and time-based) objectives, organized into eight themes: Energy, Transportation, Land & Water, Zero Waste, Education, Engagement, Resilience, and Implementation. The latest updates on this effort are listed above, from the iCAP Portal project updates available at the iCAP page on the Insititute for Sustainability, Energy, & Environment (iSEE) website.
    • The next iCAP will be released in Fall 2025.
