Refrigerants pose an environmental risk when improperly stored or disposed of. Finding solutions to properly store, dispose of, or reduce the use of refrigerants is essential to mitigate risk fo the environment and reduce greenhouse gas emissions.
This project is to demonstrate the impact of indigenous plant “soft landings” in right-of-ways to support our mature trees while meeting iCAP goals.

Robert A. Evers Laboratory
Both exhaust fan 1 and 2 had broken belts that required replacement, leading to the bathrooms struggling to exhaust. There were many issues that needed to be corrected on graphics, including issues with CHW pumps AHU safety alerts. Overall, the Retrocommissioning Team has been successful in reducing costs by over $14,000 as of September 2023, corresponding to a substantial 40% reduction.

State Farm Center
The iCAP Objective 3.4.2. Implement Campus Bike Plan to provide seasonal storage for bicycles and encourage the use of bicycles as a sustainable mode of transport. The Round Barns along St. Mary's Road was used as storage for abandoned bicycles over the summer. However, the Round Barns are not available for bike storage starting summer 2025, necessitating an alternative long-term bike storage solution.
The development of a plan is noted by Harvard Business School Online as "the ongoing organizational process of using available knowledge to document a business's intended direction. This process is used to prioritize efforts, effectively allocate resources, align shareholders and employees on the organization’s goals, and ensure those goals are backed by data and sound reasoning."
The Illinois Climate Action Plan (iCAP) is the strategic framework for meeting our Climate Leadership Commitments to be carbon-neutral by 2050 and build resilience with our local community. The first iCAP was written in 2010, and it is updated every five years.
The iCAP 2025 is currently in development, with broad public input, strategic insight from the iCAP Teams, and formal approval anticipated in Spring 2026 from the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign's Chancellor.
