This is the default layout most projects will use.

Green Roof on Bousfield Hall

The roofing material on Bousfield is designed to reduce solar heat absorption, keeping the environment cooler and using less energy for air conditioning. In addition to other materials used to accomplish this, small patches of green roof located on the north and southwest sides of the building were also added.  The landscape, including these patches of green roof, is designed with native and drought-tolerant plants to reduce dependency on potable water, as well as reduce the amount of maintenance that needs to be done to support the green roof plants.

Outdoor Recycling Bin Update

This project will improve the waste process around the outdoor campus areas and increase recycling participation. It will do this by increasing recycling bin visibility with improved bins and signage, co-locating waste and recycling bins, and improving the overall layout of waste and recycling bins on campus. There are currently 372 concrete trash bins on campus and an additional 60 made of other materials. Facilities & Services initially proposed to remove all 432 of the bins and to replace them with a total of 133 dual bins.

Indoor Bin Update

This project will improve the recycling process in buildings around campus by encouraging sustainable actions and improving the layout of waste and recycling bins within these buildings. Facilities & Services collaborated with ISTC to make an “Indoor Solid Waste and Recycling Collection Assessment”. This assessment determined that the type and layout of collection containers in buildings across campus should be standardized. An update would enable them to be co-located and allow for greater infrastructure consistency.

State Waste Reduction Plan

According to the Control Mandate #13 - Solid Waste Management Act (415 ILCS 20/3.1 thru 20/3.1), each State-supported institution of higher learning shall develop a comprehensive waste reduction plan covering a period of 10 years which addresses the management of solid waste generated by academic, administrative, student housing and other institutional functions.

Green Roof on Lincoln Hall

The Lincoln Hall remodeling project consisted of the rehabilitation, restoration, and remodeling of Lincoln Hall on the main quadrangle of the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign Campus. Three small courtyard additions were also part of the project. Two small green roofs (designed as sedum meadows) were also planted on the coutyard on SE and SW side.

Green Roof on iHotel

In the Fall of 2012, as a further step to conserve natural resources and encourage sustainability throughout the University of Illinois south campus, a 2,860 square-foot green roof system was developed for the conference center roof, adjoining the iHotel. This eco-friendly system created additional green space and complements the natural landscaping that has already been implemented in the Research Park.

Chemistry Annex Renovation and Addition: LEED Gold

The Chemistry Annex achieved LEED Gold Certification status on October 30, 2018. The project earned 61 out of 110 total points on the LEED v2009 New Construction scorecard. The Chem Annex renovation and addition earned a significant number of points in the Sustainable Sites and Indoor Environmental Quality categories.
