The American with Disabilities Act (ADA) identifies facility requirements to meet the needs of persons with disabilities.  This University has a very strong history of support for persons with disabilities, and that is reflected in many of the campus facilities.  One example is the new Tim Nugent residence hall with the Beckwith program in Ikenberry Commons. 

The Champaign-Urbana Urbanized Area Transportation Study (CUUATS) was commissioned by the Campus Area Transportation Study (CATS) to produce University District Crosswalk Design Guidelines.  These guidelines were established to create a unified look for the University District crosswalks, regardless of the jurisdictional authority in charge of the specific roadways.  After implementing a consistent and clear standard for crosswalks, the CATS agencies were pleased to see a dramatic increase in compliance with crosswalk laws,

The University works with the Office of the Dean of Students and other departments to provide information about the Zipcar program to the campus community.  Information is shared through websites, campus message boards, newspapers, and various events during the year. 

The Zipcar program was brought to town through a collaboration with MTD, Urbana, Champaign, and the University.  During that process, it was decided that this Zipcar fleet would belong to the Zipcar category for University Programs.  By participating in the University Program, the Illinois students ages 18-20 who have had a drivers license in good standing for over two years can use the Zipcar vehicles in the C-U Fleet.  All members over 21 can use the Zipcar vehicles in any city.

UI Ride is an intercampus shuttle service connecting Urbana-Champaign and Chicago to provide an affordable, efficient, and convenient mode of transportation for the University of Illinois System faculty, staff, and students. All shuttles are wheelchair accessible and can seat up to 18 passengers. On-board amenities include free Wi-Fi, comfortable seating, a restroom, collaborative workspaces, and more.

CRIS Rural Mass Transit District provides General Public and Senior Transportation Services to the residents of Champaign and Vermilion County, Illinois. With offices in both counties, CRIS has the staff, service fleet and over thirty years of transit experience to serve the needs of Champaign and Vermilion County residents.

Disability Resources and Educational Services (DRES) is responsible for providing curb to curb service for UI students, employees, and visitors with disabilities.  DRES owns three 30 foot white buses and a mini-bus that travel campus on a daily basis providing rides for persons with disabilities.  The DRES buses operate on a fixed schedule, with designated stop locations, generally on the half-hour.

Installation and maintenance of bus stops within the CUMTD jurisdictional boundaries are controlled by the MTD.  However, any bus stop on campus also gets the approval of the Architecture Review Committee.  Campus has facility standards that must be met, so F&S works with MTD to implement bus stop improvements.  In recent years, MTD and the UI have cooperated to provide power, internet, security cameras, benches, trash receptacles, new shelters, and StopWATCH kiosks to bus stops. 

Bicycle registration is primarily a method to assist with returning stolen or lost bikes when they are recovered. In Summer 2020, the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign Facilities & Services (F&S) department purchased a National Bicycle Registration system through Project 529 for campus and community.
