According to Illinois Extension, "Integrated Pest Management is a system for reducing crop losses from insects, weeds and plant diseases. IPM uses all available control practices such as crop rotation (changing what's grown in a field), selecting resistant varieties (plants resistant to pests), mechanical cultivation, changing planting and harvesting times, biological control (using other living organisms to control pests), and chemical control."
The Sidney Lu Mechanical Engineering Building has employed 4 levels of photovoltaic panels which sit within window panels. These window panels extend from the 1st to 4th floor. On floors 1-3 the panels are covered with an interior wall, but on the 4th floor study area they are on full display.
The Demirjian Park Stadium was awarded LEED silver on November 14th, 2023. The project was awarded 6 out of 6 possible points in the Innovation category. As well as 3 out of 3 points for low emitting materials.
The complex houses the Universities soccer teams, and the track and field teams.
Demirjian Park features two soccer fields, one for competition use and one for practice use. As well as the track and field complex.
The Ubben Basketball Complex Expansion was awarded LEED Silver Certification on Sep 11th, 2023. Achieving 54 out of 110 possible points.
The Ubben Basketball Complex opened in 1998. The $40 million renovation and expansion of this building was made possible to due to the donations of donors and alumni. This expansion doubled the size of the facility and incorporated some of the newest sports technologies and training facilites.
The Talbot Laboratory Addition was awarded LEED Silver certification on July 10th, 2023. The addition scored high within the Water Efficiency category, scoring 8 out of 10 points. In the Water Reduction sub category, the Laboratory gained a perfect 4 out of 4 points.
The construction for the three story addition began in Spring of 2019. The addition will house a Nuclear Materials Lab and a Radiation Measurement Laboratory. These new facilities are shared with the Department of Nuclear, Plasma, and Radiological Engineering as well as the Department of Aerospace Engineering.
The Illinois Street Residence (ISR) Townsend Hall received LEED silver status on Jun 14th, 2022. Townsend Hall is one of two dormitory facilities which make up ISR Hall. The recent renovations to ISR had strong scores in Location and Transportation, scoring 13 out of 16 possible points. In addition to Water Efficiency, scoring 8 out of 11 possible points. ISR is known for its proximity to the engineering campus and houses many future STEM students.
Illinois Street Residence (ISR) Dining Hall was awarded LEED Sliver certification on April 18th, 2022. The construction scored 20 out of 26 possible points in the Sustainable sites category, with a prioritization in Alternative Transportation. As one of the largest dining centers, ISR Dining Hall is a hub that see high foot traffic everyday. A unique feature of the new hall is its 8 micro restaurants, which serve a variety of meal options.

The Mechanical Engineering Building (MEB), also known as the Sidney Lu Mechanical Engineering building, was awarded LEED gold certification on Jan 30th, 2023.The original building was constructed in 1905 and became the MEB on May 12th, 1950. The building recently underwent a massive renovation and prioritized LEED categories like Sustainable Sites, scoring 20 out of 26 points. As well as Innovation in Design, earning 4 out of 6 points.
The Campus Instructional Facility (CIF) was awarded LEED Platinum status on June 30th, 2023. The structure was highly scored in the Energy and Atmosphere category, scoring 30 out of a possible 33 points. In addition, the building received 6 out of 6 possible points in the Innovation Category. The CIF building is a great step forward to achieving carbon neutrality on campus by 2050.
