Description

The Mechanical Engineering Building (MEB), also known as the Sidney Lu Mechanical Engineering building, was awarded LEED gold certification on Jan 30th, 2023.The original building was constructed in 1905 and became the MEB on May 12th, 1950. The building recently underwent a massive renovation and prioritized LEED categories like Sustainable Sites, scoring 20 out of 26 points. As well as Innovation in Design, earning 4 out of 6 points.

The renovation was started on Oct 12th, 2018. The 60,000 sq.ft of the original building were updated, in addition to the construction of a 25,000 sq. ft addition. This renovation was made possible through a generous gift supplied by Alumni Sidney Lu, which the building to which the buildings name was dedicated.

Since the completion of the renovations, the Sidney Lu MEB  has become a hub for creation and design. The addition included a 24/7 maker space, which is an open workshop that supplies students with the tools to invent and learn on their own time.
