The Transportation SWATeam is a team of faculty, staff and students who work to advance the 2015 iCAP transportation objectives. The team forms recommendations to reduce the 10% of campus emissions which are attributable to transportation. We address air travel emissions, fleet emissions, single-occupancy vehicle usage, renewable fuels, and active transportation.
Based on FY14 data, transportation emissions have increased by 30% since the FY08 baseline. Because emissions from the fleet and commuting are down by three and six percent, respectively, the increase in total transportation emissions is entirely due to a 52% increase in air travel emissions relative to FY08.
This team focused on the objectives found in Chapter 3 of the iCAP 2020:
3.1 Establish written replacement plans for at least 80% of campus fleets by FY24 to improve university-owned vehicle fuel efficiency. The responsible campus unit for championing this objective is Fleet Managers and F&S.
3.2 Increase the Pavement Condition Index (PCI) for university-owned roads so the average PCI score is at least 65 by FY25 and at least 70 by FY30. The responsible campus unit for championing this objective is F&S.
3.3 Establish an Electric Vehicle Task Force to identify key goals for supporting the use of electric vehicles on and off-campus by FY22. The responsible campus unit for championing this objective is Parking.
3.4 Reduce driving on campus and report the percentage of staff trips made using single-occupancy vehicles from 60% to 50% by FY25 and 45% by FY30. The responsible campus unit for championing this objective is F&S.
3.4.1 Develop a Commuter Program (Bus, Bike, and Hike) for faculty and staff. Register 100 people by FY24 and 500 people by FY30. The responsible campus unit for championing this objective is Parking with F&S.
