  • Illinois Climate Action Plan 2020 Chapter Summary: Resilience. Where we've been: Chancellor Jones & mayors of Champaign & Urbana signed proclamation affirming commitment to community resilience (2018); Resilience SWATeam formed (2019); Community slowed spread of COVID-19 &  supported vulnerable residents (2020). Where we’re going: Establish local carbon offsets program by FY24; Develop urban biodiversity master plan for Champaign, Urbana, Savoy, & campus by FY24; Publicize environmental justice plan by FY24

  • Illinois Climate Action Plan 2020 Chapter Summary: Zero Waste. Where we've been: iSEE launched “Campus as a Living Laboratory” to engage researchers with iCAP (2018); 6th annual iSEE Congress discussed environmental activism (2019); iSEE published version of Certified Green Office Program (2020). Where we’re going: Join Green Sports Alliance by FY21; Increase certifications issued through Certified Greener Campus Program 20% yearly from FY20-24; Support youth sustainability programs.

  • Illinois Climate Action Plan 2020 Chapter Summary: Zero Waste. Where we've been: F&S started upgrade program to meet campus’s goal of zero waste (2019); Funding approved to replace campus trash bins with 130 dual trash and recycling bins (2020); Educational tours of Waste Transfer Station have increased engagement. Where we’re going: Reduce landfilled waste to 4,544 tons or less, a decrease of at least 10% by FY24; Establish green cleaning program by FY24; Increase Housing’s use of local food to 35% by FY30

  • Illinois Climate Action Plan 2020 Chapter Summary: Transportation. Where we've been: U of I earned Silver designation as Bicycle Friendly University (2019); Staffed full-time equivalent of 3 employees for sustainable transportation (2019); UI Ride unveiled (2019). Where we’re going: Establish an Electric Vehicle Task force to support electric vehicle use on and off campus by FY22; Reduce net air travel emissions by 50% by FY24; Establish telecommuting policies for campus by FY24

  •  Illinois Climate Action Plan 2020 Chapter Summary: Energy. Where we've been: 10-year PPA with Rail Splitter Wind Farm for 25,000 MWh/year (2016); 198 kW biomass boiler installed at Illinois Energy Farm (2017); Solar Farm 2.0, which will produce 20,000 MWh/year, construction approved (2019). Where we're going: Develop comprehensive plan to meet FY50 net-zero GHG goal by FY24, Reduce energy use intensity from FY08 baseline by 45% by FY30; Use clean energy sources for 15% of campus’s demand by FY30

Where we've been: undergrad certificate in Environmental Writing created (2017); Education SWATeam formed (2019); Sustainability, Energy, and Environment Fellows Program enrolled 56 students (2020). Where we're going: partner with Career Center to help students explore careers related to sustainability by FY22; offer graduate certificate in sustainability by FY24; establish online sustainability course catalog.
