Greenhouse Gas Emission Reduction Update
Associated Project(s):On January 13, 2012, sustainability staff submitted updated greenhouse gas emissions inventories for fiscal years 2008, 2009, 2010 and 2011. The numbers look a little different from previous inventories due to the use of the Clean Air-Cool Planet calculator and because of the availability of additional data. Illinois is making great progress on emissions reductions with a ~15% reduction in the last four years
OS staff reviewed and edited Illinois’ entry in the Princeton Review’s Guide to Green Schools. In the future, the Princeton Review, the Sierra Club and the Sustainable Endowments Institute will extract data from a Campus Sustainability Data Collector, which is very similar to AASHE’s STARS reporting system, and very extensive.

Associated Project(s):The Center for a Sustainable Environment is seeking proposals from faculty to support research activities related to specific Facilities & Services sustainability projects. These projects are directly related to the Illinois Climate Action Plan. Faculty selected for this program will earn the name “Sustainability Fellow” for one academic year, one month’s summer salary, and in some cases funding for a graduate research assistant during the same academic year.
