  1. Weekly Update: Bike sales, Build-a-Bike, Bike Rodeo

    All, Business as usual this last week. Still can’t keep enough bikes on the sales floor to meet demand but we have had an uptick in Build-a-Bikes. One B-a-B was finished on Friday and another started the same day.

    This week we are helping out with a Safe Routes to School Bike Rodeo program by providing the basketball courts for their learn to ride course.

    Thanks to Todd for putting a sizeable dent in our scrap pile, as we’ve been getting a lot of non-repairable bikes donated lately (unfortunately).

    The numbers:

    Visitors: 29

    Sales: $862
    Bikes (refurb): 2 for $235
    Bikes (B-a-B): 1 for $50
    Memberships: 6 for $180

    Tires/tubes: 14 for $136

    Hi John,

     

    Fist of all I noticed you were in Koinonia House. I have two of my friends that were in that house- Tim and Paul Manning. Do you know them? They would have graduated in the late 70s or early 80s but are very active alumni.

     

    I have included Don Marrow (our Business manager) and Elizabeth Majerus ( our Director of the School). The part in red is where is where we need money to complete the projects Don and Elizabeth.

     

    I have read the report. I want to do the following:

     

    1. I will have 8 paper recycle containers on each floor- clearing marked. Should I spray paint them green or blue?
    2. Make sure all black containers are for garbage/trash only so we don't find contamination in all recycling bins.
    3. The issue with the steel door our previous business manager wanted the wooden doors.  Didn't have much say
    4. I would like all lights motions to switched to sensor LED. Don how do we make that happen?
    5. We realize our windows are not very effective. We need a complete overhaul of our windows.
    6. We did have a group talk to us about food recycling, but they wanted to do the composting inside the building. That was not going to work.
    1. On the land section, I have a boy scout do his eagle project on the area right outside the door on Springfield so that it now looks much better. We also have a club taking care of the small garden.
    2. Don, how can we get more sensor water bottle filters on each floor.. We have one on third, we need on second near 206 and one near 106 N.

They are responses sent to me, Elizabeth Majerus, and Don Marrow—for some reason you both and the students were not included, but I think it’s because I sent out the files to him. I wanted you both to be aware so that you can appropriately respond whenever you can. I will tell him I’m forwarding this all to you both and thank him for his outlook on making changes.     Hi Morgan, Paul, Andy, and Karl,

    Last semester, the NRES285 students worked on a sustainability assessment of Uni High. Karl Radnitzer (Associate Director for Student Life at Uni High) expressed interest in moving forward with a few initiatives, as follows:

    1. I would like all lights motions to switched to sensor LED. Don how do we make that happen?
    2. We realize our windows are not very effective. We need a complete overhaul of our windows.
    1. Don, how can we get more sensor water bottle filters on each floor.. We have one on third, we need on second near 206 and one near 106 N.

  8. Weekly Update: Bike sales, Build-a-Bike

    All, Hope everyone enjoyed the long weekend! We got a load of wheels/tires donated last week that we’ll be working to process this week. We’re up to 5 bikes for sale right now and should have a couple more done by the time we open tomorrow. Had one completed Build-a-Bike, which is always nice. Another person started their own B-a-B project and seems to be enjoying the process.

    This week I’ll make a run to the Urbana Bike Project for some parts/supplies for various bike builds here and hopefully get a few more bikes on the sales floor.

    Bikes (B-a-B): 1 for $50

    CHAMPAIGN, Ill. (WCCU/WICS) — The University of Illinois Urbana Champaign is dealing with an abandoned bicycle problem.

    Each summer the staff with the University of Illinois Facilities & Services and the parking department identify and collect unwanted bicycles on campus.

    Any bike left on university property gets an orange sticker that reads, "Remove this tag by 6/30/22, or your bicycle will be removed."

    If the bicycle is still there on Tuesday, July 5 it will be impounded.

     

    If your bike has been removed and you'd like it back, email bike@illinois.edu with your bicycle information.

    If you have an old bicycle you'd like to donate, you can drop it off at the Campus Bike Center (51 Gregory Drive, Champaign) or the Bike Project of Urbana (202 S. Broadway Avenue, Room 24).

    Abandoned Bicycles Will Be Removed in July

     

     

     

     

     

    Abandoned Bicycles - Remove the Orange Sticker by July 5

     

    		  

    Each summer, F&S and the Parking Department identify and collect unwanted bicycles on campus after the end of the spring semester.

    All bikes left on university property have been tagged with an orange sticker that reads, "Remove this tag by 6/30/22, or your bicycle will be removed." Any bicycle that still displays this sticker by Tuesday, July 5, will be deemed abandoned and will be impounded. If you presently have a bike in a campus rack or parking location, please remember to remove this sticker soon to ensure your bike is designated as active.

    To retrieve a bike that has been removed, contact bike@illinois.edu with your bicycle information.

    Bicycle Donation
    If you no longer need your bicycle, consider donating it to the Campus Bike Center (51 Gregory Drive, Champaign) or the Bike Project of Urbana (202 S. Broadway Avenue, Room 24). No appointment is needed. All donations are tax-deductible. Bicycles will be refurbished or recycled with as much of the bike reused as possible.

  16. Energy Source Options Final Design Report 5/6/22

    The attached document is entitled Energy Source Options Final Design Report. Which is a report done for ME 470 Senior Design. 

    The report details research on the use of compressed CO2 as a refrigerant. The goal of the report was to determine if this system would be viable option for providing green energy on campus.

  18. Weekly Update: Kids bike give away; Build-a-Bike

    All, Last week we were able to fix up and give away 10 kids bikes to ISCU (Immigrant Services of Champaign-Urbana). Great to pass along valuable bikes to a valuable cause, and nice to clear some space in the Bike Center. We also virtually sold out of bikes, as we were down to a single for-sale bike on Wednesday. Fixed up 2 more for Friday but that’s likely not going to cut it, so we’ll move to finish a few more builds this week.

    We had one person start on a Build-a-Bike on Friday. Hopefully should be done today or Wednesday.

    Numbers:

    Bikes (refurb): 4 for $$675

    Memberships: 7 or $210
    Tire/tubes: 3 for $24
