  1. Illini Hall

    As part of the Lighting Retrofit #5, 610 T-12 fixtures in Illini Hall were replaced with more energy-efficient T-8 fixtures. This switch will incur an Annual kWh Savings of 96,185 hours. The simple payback for this project is 3.56 years.

    As part of the Lighting Retrofit #5, 485 T-12 fixtures in Harker Hall were replaced with more energy-efficient T-8 fixtures. This switch will incur an Annual kWh Savings of 76,475 hours. The simple payback for this project is 3.56 years.

  4. Harding Band Building

    As part of the Lighting Retrofit #5, 304 T-12 fixtures in the Harding Band Building were replaced with more energy-efficient T-8 fixtures. This switch will incur an Annual kWh Savings of 47,935 hours. The simple payback for this project is 3.81 years.

  5. Colonel Wolfe School

    As part of the Lighting Retrofit #5, 298 T-12 fixtures in the Colonel Wolfe School were replaced with more energy-efficient T-8 fixtures. This switch will incur an Annual kWh Savings of 46,989 hours. The simple payback for this project is 3.55 years.

  7. Ceramics Kiln House

    As part of the Lighting Retrofit #5, 687 T-12 fixtures in the Admin Tech Info Building were replaced with more energy-efficient T-8 fixtures. This switch will incur an Annual kWh Savings of 112,316 hours. The simple payback for this project is 3.42 years.

  8. Architecture Building

    As part of the Lighting Retrofit #5, 618 T-12 fixtures in the Architecture Building were replaced with more energy-efficient T-8 fixtures. This switch will incur an Annual kWh Savings of 97,446 hours. The simple payback for this project is 3.47 years.

  9. Greenhouse Gas Emission Reduction Update

    On January 13, 2012, sustainability staff submitted updated greenhouse gas emissions inventories for fiscal years 2008, 2009, 2010 and 2011.  The numbers look a little different from previous inventories due to the use of the Clean Air-Cool Planet calculator and because of the availability of additional data.  Illinois is making great progress on emissions reductions with a ~15% reduction in the last four years

    OS staff reviewed and edited Illinois’ entry in the Princeton Review’s Guide to Green Schools.  In the future, the Princeton Review, the Sierra Club and the Sustainable Endowments Institute will extract data from a Campus Sustainability Data Collector, which is very similar to AASHE’s STARS reporting system, and very extensive.

    The Center for a Sustainable Environment is seeking proposals from faculty to support research activities related to specific Facilities & Services sustainability projects. These projects are directly related to the Illinois Climate Action Plan.  Faculty selected for this program will earn the name “Sustainability Fellow” for one academic year, one month’s summer salary, and in some cases funding for a graduate research assistant during the same academic year.

     

  13. Animal Sciences Building

    As part of the Lighting Retrofit #5, 1,724 T-12 fixtures in the Animal Sciences Building were replaced with more energy-efficient T-8 fixtures. This switch will incur an Annual kWh Savings of 271,840 hours. The simple payback for this project is 3.56 years.

  14. Registration now open for Bicycle Mechanic Course

    Registration is now open for the six-week Bicycle Mechanic Course offered by the Campus Bicycle Shop! Space is extremely limited, and there is a $30 course fee.  The class will run from February 6-March 13  and again from March 27-May 1.  Register  in person for either session at the Campus Bike Shop today to reserve your spot!  For more information contact Ken Sutto, Campus Bike Shop Manager, at 217-300-0296 or kensutto@illinois.edu or come by the Campus Bike Shop during open hours (2 to 6pm Monday -Thursday and 2 to 5:30 Friday). 

     

    “So You Want to Work on Bikes” is a six-part course designed to teach you about different types of  bicycles, their components, and how to do most adjustments, maintenance, and overhauls on your bicycle’s major systems.

    This six-week course runs February 6-March 13 and will be held on Wednesday nights, from 6:30 to 8:30pm at the Campus Bike Shop. There are only five spots in the course, and registration is first come, first served until all five spots are filled. There is a $30 course fee, with all the money going towards The Bike Project of Urbana-Champaign. This six-week course will be held again from March 27-May 1, and registration for the second course is also currently open (again, first come first served).

    If you wish to register please come by the Campus Bike Shop to sign up and pay the deposit as soon as you can.   16. Presentation to regional green team and RPC members

    Mahomet Aquifer Sole Source Aquifer designation

    Sole Source Aquifer  designation process and impacts presented by Wehrmann and Adams.   The University's drinking water comes from this aquifer, and there are no other viable options for drinking water supply. Many local residents understand how lucky we are to have excellent clean water available from this underground glacial aquifer, but the constantly new population on campus needs to be informed. This presentation showed details of the existing aquifer outline, users, and the results of the search for alternative water sources, which proved this aquifer is our ONLY water source. 

  17. Uni High School
