University of Illinois organized a meeting for all participating units - F&S, CBC, Urbana, Champaign, MTD, CCRPC, TBP, and CCB. Please see attached the notes from our meeting.

Following the Light the Night 2020 - Initial Planning Meeting, it was decided that this year we will install the silicone strap lights only. Evan Alvarez and/or Cyhtia Hoyle will purchase the lights and send the quote with the share to each funding agency.

Morgan White (F&S) and Mathew Hagaman (ISU) are collaborating on a virtual solar farm tour, funded through an ISEIF grant being coordinated by Mr. Hagaman at ISU. The virtual tour is starting with Solar Farm 1.0, with a site visit on 7/30/2020.

Here is the initial rough estimate for the Armory Avenue bike path for the section by Gregory Hall:

• Remove tree roots and bushes  $4,000
• Remove Erns and remove bases  $8,000
• remove walks and new dirt  $6,000
• replace concrete  $32,000
• $50,000 total

The cost of landscaping is not included in this estimate. We will be using the SSC funds available + the bike fee money for this bike path section.

RailSplitter Wind Farm provided the June 2020 Buyer's Share amounts by hour, totaling 1892.7 Megawatt hours. See attached file.

Bicycle Registration was open for public on July 20, 2020. Currently due to the pandemic, all Shield pick-up locations are closed, so for those who register and want the 529 Shield now, they must contact bike@illinois.edu to arrange for a time and place to collect the Shield. Otherwise, Sarthak Prasad would reach out to them when the Shield pick-up locations are open.

Sarthak Prasad was hired and rejoined the F&S department as the Sustainable Transportation Assistant as a full-time employee. He resumed work on July 16,2020.

The University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign is now a registered SmartWay Affiliate! The EPA SmartWay Affiliate Agreement was signed on 6/19/20, and the university was officially welcomed to the program by a representative from the EPA on 7/16/20. Civil Engineering student Abby Culloton and F&S Sustainability Intern Sinead Soltis will begin integrating the SmartWay messaging within campus departments beginning in the fall 2020 semester.

The iWG met on 7/8/2020 to review the iCAP 2020 process, updated objectives, and Sustainability Council feedback. The PowerPoint with the agenda is attached.

Good morning, Meredith

I’ve had a chance to review the iWG recommendations and discuss them with iSEE leadership. Both recommendations, the Environmental Leadership Program and Student Sustainability Ambassadors are creative, will provide students with new opportunities to engage in sustainability learning, and will have a positive impact on our iCAP goals.

The iWG should be aware that we are launching test modules as part of the leadership program this fall semester. iSEE has hired a coordinator to develop several learning modules, likely full day programs, on topics such as ‘environmental communications’ and ‘effective interviewing strategies’. We will use these modules to recruit faculty into the program, build partnerships, evaluate financial expenses, and evaluate student interest. If all goes well, these modules will serve as the components of full program. Once we have a better sense of the curriculum, we can also initiate fund raising activities.

The ambassadors program has real promise to advance campus’ iCAP goals and to more fully engage students in sustainability activities. That said, iSEE is not prepared to launch this program at this time. Not for lack of merit, but rather for lack of bandwidth. To properly launch the leadership program mentioned above is a significant undertaking and we want to make sure we do it well. While iSEE is not prepared to launch this program at this time, we will take an initial step to explore its viability by discussing the proposed course offering with NRES.
