  1. 2025 Bike Month Planning Meeting #3

    Today, members of the planning team attended the third meeting for Bike Month 2025. The team discussed sponsorships and advertising for Bike to Work Day as well as location and purchasing details for Light the Night. Attached is a document with agenda items and a document with roles & responsibilities.

  5. Dates set for C-U Bike Month 2025

    In a meeting on 6/13/2025 dates for the C-U Bike to Work Day and Light the Night events were finalized. Attached is a flyer showing the event dates. Registration will open later this summer at cubikemonth.org.

    • Wednesday, September 10th, 7-10 am:  Bike to Work Day
    • Tuesday, September 16th, 4-7 pm:  Light the Night
    • Thursday, September 11th, 7-10 am:  Bike to Work Day rain date
    • Wednesday, September 17th, 4-7 pm:  Light the Night rain date

  7. Bike for Earth Day 2025 Location Conflicts

    The Alma Mater Plaza welcoming center for Bike for Earth Day was moved to Graziano Plaza (plaza between the Engineering Hall and Everitt) because of a scheduled climate march and the March for Science rally. Morgan White was able to reserve Graziano Plaza for volunteers to hand out Bike Lights and Bike Month T-shirts to attendees. For future Bike for Earth Day events, it may be easier to move the welcoming center locations to actual reservable spaces.

    Join the celebration of Earth Day on Tuesday, April 22, by biking around campus, grabbing a free set of lights, or registering your bicycle!
    As part of the university’s Earth Month events, the first-ever Bike for Earth Day will feature three welcoming centers open from 3 to 7 p.m. at:

    • Alma Mater Plaza 
    • Hallene Gateway (intersection of Illinois Street and Lincoln Avenue)
    • Activities & Recreation Center (east side driveway)

  12. Leftover Bike to Work Day and Light the Night combined event

    F&S, MTD, Urbana, and Champaign are planning to host an event in April 2025 (around Earth Day 04/22) to give away the remaining lights and t-shirts from Bike to Work Day and Light the Night. Additional details are still being discussed internally.

  13. Weekly Update: Bike week, busy week

    All, Another busy week with the fun addition of Bike To Work Day and Light The Night. Haven’t seen the numbers yet but both events went well,  I believe. Friday was surprisingly slow here, which was great since I had staff out sick. We had a BTWD participant follow up and volunteer with us on Friday, which was great.

    With the previously mentioned events out of the way, it’s on to prep for the abandoned bikes being released to us soon. Space is at a premium, so we’ll have to get creative and/or judicial in the bikes we utilize. Hope to get a few more bikes on the sales floor. We also already have one bike ready to go for our Kids Bike Giveaway.

  16. Thank you email sent out

    Sarthak sent out an email to all campus Bike to Work Day welcome stations to thank them for their work and participation in this event. All remaining t-shirts and swag would be returned to the MTD Training Facility on 09/19 between 2-6 pm. Special thanks to Paul Jensen and his team at F&S Public Functions who provided the tables, chairs, recycling, and trash for today’s event as well as the Housing department for providing food and refreshments to all eight campus welcoming stations.

    All, It’s Bike Week! Bike To Work Day and Light The Night are this week, so we’re prepping for that. Still busy here, too, during our open hours. We’re moving more build-a-bikes and have 3 bikes in the queue for the sales floor. After this week we’re on to the abandoned bikes from the last round up. Always fun around here!

  18. Registration updates

    C-U Bike to Work Day

    There are currently 1,027 registrations for all of Champaign County's Bike to Work Day. Station managers picked up their materials Tuesday 9/17 at the MTD Training Facility, where staff and faculty had sorted all t-shirts, pamphlets, key chains, etc. into station boxes. Boxes will be returned on Friday 9/20 to the MTD Training Facility. The planning team is working with Forage Kitchen to draw 16 gift card winners after all participation numbers are in.
