Search tips:
- This form will search for words in the title OR the description. If you would like to search for the same term(s) across both the title and description, enter the same search term(s) in both fields.
- This form will search for any of the words you enter in a field, not the exact phrase you enter. If you would like to search for an exact phrase, put double quotes (") around the phrase. For example, if you search for Bike Path you will get results containing either the word Bike OR the word Path, but if you search for "Bike Path" you will get results containing the exact phrase Bike Path.

Weekly Update
Associated Project(s):All, last week was exceedingly quiet. I closed up shop on Tuesday due to the wonky heating and the extreme cold. Since then, the heat has been operating at about 30% but that’s enough to get by. Fingers crossed it gets fixed this week.
This week I will, weather permitting, be able to give final test rides and checks to the bikes I built up last week. I’ll also be building a shelving unit next to the bench grinder in an attempt to maximize some of the vertical space the shop allows for but is currently going unused. Beyond that it is business as usual.
Visitors: 10
Sales: $105No bike sales (refurb nor b-a-b) last week.
Sincerely,
- Jake Benjamin

EGen SWATeam Meeting Minutes
Associated Project(s):The EGen SWATeam held their second meeting of FY17 on October 13, where they discussed updates on the expansion of campus solar and on a second solar farm. The capital cost fell in the team's predicted range with a significant payback. The S&H building will also be receiving rooftop solar. The team also discussed ways to cut back on costs, such as selling solar recs and purchasing wind recs. The team plans on bringing in experts in the field to discuss this possibility.

Attached Files:Seeking SSLC Co-Presidents
Associated Project(s):SSLC took a hiatus for the fall semester and will return this spring with new programming, more support, and a greater opportunity for sustainable impact. iSEE will offer course credit for two students to co-president SSLC in the spring. This is a three to four hour weekly commitment and requires strong communication, coordination, and organization skills combined with an interest in campus sustainability. The co-presidents will facilitate meetings, manage a student listserv, coordinate biweekly educational opportunities (ex. solar farm tour), and biweekly informal gatherings.
Weekly Update for Zero Waste
Associated Project(s):Hi Pete and Shawn—
Here is the latest on zero-waste from the past week:
- I put a local farmer, John McNally, in touch with Rebecca Seymour, who manages the Starbuck’s at the Illini Union. I was able to learn that coffee grounds can be stored in plastic bins with lids until they are ready for use, although the lid should be kept on as they mold quickly and emit a nasty odor. John is able to pick up the grounds and will arrange pickup directly with Rebecca.
- I also let Rebecca know that I heard back from the Urbana Park District, and they will see if any of their gardeners are interested in the used coffee grounds. Starbuck’s corporate has a program for packaging small quantities of used grounds for same-day pickup that may be a good fit for individual gardeners. I sent program information to Rebecca as well.
- I went by PPSB today to take a look at the trailer for nitrile gloves but was unable to identify which container it was. I have a note out to Morgan and Anna to see if it makes sense for me to get a “tour”/demo one weekend or when I’m in town on Feb. 19. Once I see the trailer and how it works, I’ll be able to draft better instructions for glove recycling program participants.
Best regards,
Marya Ryan

Attached Files:Updated LEED requirements
Associated Project(s):The previous project description began with this statement: "The University has adopted LEED Gold certification as a part of their design standards on all new construction." However, the Facility Standards and the Campus Master Plan were not aligned with each other. During the update to the Facility Standards and update to the Campus Master Plan in 2017, the campus leadership determined that the appropriate requirement for new construction buildings is LEED Silver, to comply with minimum state legal requirements.
ECBS SWATeam Meeting Minutes
Associated Project(s):The ECBS SWATeam had their sixth meeting of the year on November 30. A SWATeam member, Dave Boehm, gave a presentation on the background of building maintenance issues. Marian also attended a Campus Master Plan meeting, and the team used the information obtained to talk about how to achieve greater energy efficiency, such as potentially with residential/dining hall buildings, fume hoods, etc. The progress made on the energy conservation imagery project with the American Advertising Federation, on the freezer challenge, and on the Eco-Olympics were also discussed.

Associated Project(s):On November 14, the ECBS SWATeam had their fifth meeting, where they revised their recommendation draft for energy conservation funds as a team. They also reflected on the presentation Doris and Brad gave at the previous meeting, and the team plans to contact them in regards to projects for energy savings. Energy report cards for campus buildings will be released soon. Certified Green Office Program 2.0 has been launched and currently 31% of campus buildings have been certified. A SWATeam member, Yun Kyu Yi, is also starting a personal project where he plans to look at the large-scale energy usage of each building and compare the methods for doing so.
