Search

Search tips:

  • This form will search for words in the title OR the description. If you would like to search for the same term(s) across both the title and description, enter the same search term(s) in both fields.
  • This form will search for any of the words you enter in a field, not the exact phrase you enter. If you would like to search for an exact phrase, put double quotes (") around the phrase. For example, if you search for Bike Path you will get results containing either the word Bike OR the word Path, but if you search for "Bike Path" you will get results containing the exact phrase Bike Path.
  1. PWR001 Zero Waste Coordinator recommendation - Assessment and Returned

    The iCAP Working Group (iWG) met on April 2, 2015, to discuss and start the assessment of the SWATeam recommendation PWR001 Zero Waste Coordinator. Their official comment on the recommendation was:

    "We recommend that the PWR SWATeam consider whether it would be advisable to split this into two recommendations: one for F&S (focused on recycling and waste handling), and one for OBFS (focused on purchasing)."

    The recommendation was, subsequently, returned to the PWR SWATeam on April 14th, 2015.

    See attached the iWG assessment of the PWR001 Zero Waste Coordinator.

    Arbor Day Celebration Plan

    MBJ 4/3/2015

    Arbor Day Celebration: In support of designating the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign as a Tree Campus USA through the Arbor Day Foundation, the Chancellor is proclaiming Friday April 24, 2015 as a day of celebration.  An Arbor Day Celebration will occur on the Main Quad at 11:30, with the planting of a new tree near the Henry Administration Building.  Please join Associate Chancellor Mike DeLorenzo to hear the proclamation, watch the tree planting process, and participate in a fun trivia game to earn a personal tree sapling.

    Location of the Event:  The tree location is circled in orange on the aerial image below.  The area for the celebration is designated in orange as #8 on the map image below, in front of the Henry Administration Building.

    Schedule of the Celebration:  There will be a hole pre-dug for the tree on Friday morning.  The hole will be fenced off to prevent the danger of falling.  Everything for placing the tree (equipment, tree, soil) will be placed near the tree location by 11:15.  A podium, sound system, and table for the trivia game will be in place and arranged by 11:15.  The official event agenda will occur from 11:30-12:30.  Take down of the event items will occur early afternoon.

    Agenda for the Celebration:  The agenda includes a welcome, proclamation, speech, tree planting, and trivia game.

    • Welcome by Carl Wegel 5-10 minutes
    • Proclamation by Mike DeLorenzo 5-10 minutes
    • Speech about trees by Brent Lewis/Ryan Welch 10 minutes
    • Placing of the tree into the hole by Grounds crew 15-30 minutes
    • trivia game facilitated by volunteers with prizes (hopefully seedlings) during the tree placement and through remainder of the hour

    Publicity for the Celebration: The event will be listed on the Earth Week calendar of events from SECS and iSEE.  F&S will send out a press release and an e-week.  Invitations will be sent to sustainability groups and appropriate academic departments.  Al Stratman will invite people to the event, during the Earth Day master plan presentation.

  4. project started

    Associated Project(s):

    Bart (ISTC) talked to Ron (Grounds) about reversing the bins on the Ikenberry project after one week.  The project actually started the morning of April 1 so  it would be great to have the bin placement reversed on the morning of April 8th. This means moving the traditional bins to the current location of Housing’s recycling station and vice versa.  On the morning of April 15th everything can be returned to normal.

  5. iCAP Working Group Agenda for 4/2/2015

    Dear iCAP Working Group Members,

    As a reminder, we will be meeting this Thursday at 1:30 (and also next Thursday, 4/9, at 1:30).

    This week we will discuss the timeline for completing our work on the iCAP, and then turn our attention to the 7 attached formal recommendations we've received from the Transportation and Purchasing, Waste, and Recycling SWATeams.  Please review these in advance of the meeting, so that we can discuss them most efficiently.  If you will not be able to join us due to a schedule conflict, please email me in advance if you have any particular concerns.

    Next week (4/9), we'll be joined by Kent Reifsteck and Mike Larson from F&S, and also Scott Willenbrock from the Energy Generation SWATeam, so that we can discuss what the iCAP should say about charting a pathway for clean energy for our campus.

    Thanks,

    Ben

  7. Vermicompost update from Matt Turino

    Associated Project(s):

    Yes it is implemented and we are currently getting 3-6 40 gallon bins of food waste a week from Busy Evans and harvesting vermicompost out of the bottom.  We are still perfecting our technique for sure, for a while we were letting it get a little too hot for the worms which made them eat less than they would otherwise because they couldn't be in the zone where the food waste was due to the micro-organismal composting causing high temperatures.  Then we were making it too dry and now it's too wet, so we are still perfecting our vermicomposting skills but it is getting better for sure!

  8. Previous description in iCAP Portal - paragraph removed

    Associated Project(s):

    Administrative Information Technology Services (AITS) has played a large role in leading this discussion and is working with Facilities & Services to try to implement a bike share program before Fall 2014. AITS hopes to partner with other departments on campus to create a cohesive and connected bike share system within the University.
