Projects Updates for theme: Education

  1. Education iCAP Team April 2025 Meeting

    The iCAP Education Team met on Monday, April 7th from 4-5 pm via Teams. First we shared information about the upcoming events during Earth Month. Then we discussed project updates that team members had including AASHE stars data collection, sustainability language in course descriptions, progress towards a sustainability Gen-Ed requirement, a sustainability literacy assessment and outgoing survey, iSEE partnered internship opportunities, and sustainability integration into study abroad. We also discussed student team member ideas like the possibility of composting on campus. The meeting minutes are attached. 

  2. Education iCAP Team March 2025 Meeting

    The iCAP Education team met on teams from 4-5 pm on Monday March 3rd. First, we recapped the Green Career Forum and the Green Career Panel. Then we discussed updates on the collection of data for the AASHE Stars report, integrating sustainability language into course descriptions and developing the Gen-Ed sustainability requirement. Lastly the team introduced a sustainability graduate certificate and student internship opportunities. The meeting minutes are attatched. 

  3. Education iCAP Team February 2025 Meeting

    The iCAP Education team met on Teams from 4-5 PM on Monday February 10th. First we reviewed materials for the Green Career Forum, then we identified the progress and next steps for establishing the Sustainability Gen-Ed Requirement, then we introduced the possibility of a Suatainability Exit Survey, and lastly we closed by delegating research tasks for the 2025 AASHE stars report. The meeting minutes are attached.

  4. Education iCAP Team December 2024 Meeting

    The iCAP Education team met on Teams from 4-5 PM on Monday December 16th. We closed the semester by reviewing the sustainability literacy assessment data and discussing updates and next steps for the sustainability Gen-Ed requirement. The meeting minutes are attached.

  5. Education iCAP Team November 2024 Meeting

    The iCAP Education team met on Teams from 4-5 PM on Monday November 18th. First we discussed steps on moving forward with the sustainbility Gen-Ed requirement, then we discussed the integration of sustainability in study abroad programs and lastly how to get further student input on the Green Career Forum. The meeting minutes are attached. 

  6. Education iCAP Team October 2024 Meeting

    The iCAP Education team met on Teams from 4-5 PM on Monday October 21st. First we identified the next 5 steps to take towards implementing a sustainability Gen Ed requirement. Then we discussed the integration of sustainability in study abroad programs through different colleges and how to get further student input on the Green Career Forum. The meeting minutes are attached. 

  7. Education iCAP Team September 2024 Meeting

    The iCAP Education team met on Teams from 4-5 PM on Monday September 16th. The team reviewed the charges and priorities for the 2024-2025 academic year as well as the objectives. The team discussed the Sustainability Literacy Assessment, the Sustainability Gen-Ed, and the Green Career Fair. The meeting minutes are attached. 

  8. Update from Eric

    Below is an update from Eric Green:

    The only incentive program for sustainability education on campus, as far as I know, is the Levenick Teaching Fellows program. This program is currently on hiatus as it gets reimagined. Also, there may be a new program being offered with regards to sustainability for K-12, but I don't have the full details on that.

    Below is an update from Eric Green:

     

    We plan to have some educational pieces included in the sustainability literacy asessment being sent out this summer. The team has investigated and abandoned the idea of creating an ACE-IT/FYCARE type program as well as integration into the 100/101 courses. However, the sustainability gen. ed. should also help with this objective.

     

  10. Edu009 - Updating College of Business Course Descriptions - Approved

    The Illinois Climate Action Plan (iCAP) Working Group (iWG) recently approved recommendation Edu009 from the Education iCAP Team to update College of Business course descriptions to reflect the sustainability content.

    This recommendation aligns with Objective 6.2 of the iCAP 2020: Establish a comprehensive online repository for courses and academic programs with sustainability content. 

    The College of Business shared their action plan on completing the approved recommendation (attached).

    This will be followed up on in the fall to ensure the proper implementation of the recommendation.

  11. Edu009 - Updating College of Business Course Descriptions - Successful

    On 4/1/2024, Dean of Gies College of Business, Jeff Brown, responded in favor of the Edu009 - Updating College of Business Course Descriptions recommendation with the following message:

  12. Edu009 - Updating College of Business Course Descriptions - Transmitted

    On 3/16/2024, the Edu009 Updating College of Business Course Descriptions was transmitted to Dean Jeff Brown at Gies College of email with the following email. The iWG assessment is attached.

     

    Dear Dean Brown,

     

    The Illinois Climate Action Plan (iCAP) Working Group (iWG) recently approved recommendation Edu009 from the Education iCAP Team to update College of Business course descriptions to reflect the sustainability content. This recommendation aligns with Objective 6.2 of the iCAP 2020: Establish a comprehensive online repository for courses and academic programs with sustainability content.     Green Career Forum Next Tuesday!


    Looking for a career in sustainability? Invest in yourself and the environment by attending iSEE's Green Career Forum on Tuesday, Feb. 27! Illinois students meet with "green" employers from government, industry, and the nonprofit world, including the Wetlands Initiative, the Illinois Environmental Protection Agency, clean energy companies, and firms specializing in environmental design, ecological restoration, or manufacturing. Co-hosted by the Illinois Career Center and the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering, this free event is scheduled for 1-4 p.m. at the Illini Union Ballroom. No advance registration is required!  

     

  14. Zero Waste iCAP Team Meeting Minutes 2/19/2024

    The Zero Waste iCAP Team Met on 2/19/2024 to discuss initiatives regarding environmentally preferred procurement, updates on the university's participation with Coca-Cola buyback, and recyclopedia feedback. The Engagement iCAP team chair, Codie Sterner, joined to discuss the sustainability literacy survey. The Zero Waste Team will come up with questions to add to the survey.

  15. Edu009 - Updating College of Business Course Descriptions - Submitted

    The iCAP Education team made the following recommendation on 2/11/24:

     

    This recommendation asks the faculty teaching ACCY 405, BUS 101, BUS 401, BADM 395, and FIN 490/580 to update their course descriptions to better reflect the sustainability content being taught. Suggested unit/department to address implementation: College of Business, specifically the Business Administration, Finance and Accounting faculty Connection to iCAP goals: 6.2 [Establish a comprehensive online repository for courses and academic programs with sustainability content.] Perceived challenges: Faculty would be required to go through the process of updating their course descriptions, but may not know what constitutes sustainability course content.
