  2. Slap Wristbands from McKinley Health Center

    Light the Night

    Jennifer Carson from McKinley Health Center provided 400 (200 each for two locations) reflective orange slap bands for the Light the Night event that have imprinted on them our 24/7 Dial-A-Nurse. These are great for being seen in the evening hours.

    Jen dropped them off in Sarthak's office at 9 am on October 3.

  4. note about biogas availability

    I checked again with our market advisor for natural gas purchases, and they are not aware of anyone that produces biogas and injects it into the gas pipeline. They are going to do some additional checking and will follow back up if they find something.

    The did note that we could purchase environmental assets (RECs) associated with renewable gas that is produced. They are going to provide an overview summary of what this market looks like and what these type of RECs would cost.

  7. Project update - DFA

    Hi Morgan,Thank you for taking the time to meet with me a few weeks ago! Since we last spoke, we have hit a few bumps in the road! First, our team did not get the Nationals Project with P&G; however, we still intend to take the next few months to tackle the plastic film recycling challenge. Using the information and insights that you provided us, we have been able to establish a list of community organizations and members we would like to reach out to.We also spoke with County Market, only to find that they actually just discard their plastic bags in the regular dumpsters despite being listed as official bag collectors on the Champaign website. Thus, we are still looking for viable avenues to gather more information before proceeding with the project. If you would be able to provide us with any potential contacts that we could reach out to, we would really appreciate it!Finally, I would like to introduce you to Elisa, who will be our team's point of contact with community partners.     My name is Sarthak Prasad, and I work as the Sustainability and TDM Specialist in the Facilities & Services department at the University of Illinois. Stacey DeLorenzo asked me to reach out to you to organize a workshop (presentation and demonstration) on how to use the MTD on campus for students living in the Newman Center.

     

    I would love to chat with you to discuss more about this program. I have spoken to the MTD people and two people from MTD would join me for this presentation. I think it would be a great program to demonstrate how easy, safe, and accessible the MTD bus service is. How many students would you think would be interested in this program? What all do we need to do to get this started?

  10. Weekly Update - Light the Night, Fix-a-Flat, Free Visits

    All, Abbreviated week for me as I was out of town Thursday and Friday. I’ll check in with my staff this week and see how things went in my absence.

    There are 6 bikes on the outside rack from this weekend but unfortunately one or two are locked up as if it’s a regular bike rack. Whoops!

    This week will be busy as we have Light The Night on Thursday and our second Fix-a-Flat class on Friday. I’ll be talking up the F-a-F class incessantly this week in hopes of increasing participation numbers. For LTN I’ll be splitting my staff up between the shop and the event for the time that they overlap.


    We have been oscillating back and forth between allowing for Free Visits and not depending on how busy we are and how well-staffed we are at that time. So that points to things getting a little calmer (thankfully). Addressing the burnout my staff and I feel during these very busy beginning months will be a task for the winter.


    Moving all the kids bikes over to Salt & Light didn’t end up happening last week so I’ll shoot for getting those out this week. It’ll help with clearing everything out for our move. Exciting times!

    This past week, I reviewed PWR and ZW SWATeam recommendations, the F&S Indoor Solid Waste and Recycling Collection Report, and a recent version of a campus recycling FAQ that Morgan had commented on. I sent an update on toner cartridge recycling, which is one of the FAQ topics. I also read the SWATeam iCAP 2020 evaluation and sent Morgan a few comments on it.

  14. Light the Night 2019 - Bicycle Lights Giveaway

    Bring your bicycle to Alma Mater Plaza or the Hallene Gateway (Illinois Street and Lincoln Avenue) on Thursday, October 3 from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. for the free installation of bicycle light sets. Light the Night strives to improve the visibility of bicyclists in Champaign-Urbana and provide general bike safety information. Free, on-site bicycle registration will also be available. October 3, 4–7 pm

  17. Calculating line losses

    Pipe Leakage Assessment

    We can calculate the difference between what was billed, and what was purchased for potable water on campus. The difference could be made up of several things:

    • Leaks

    • Unbilled usage (that is, someone is taking water off the system for which we don’t have a meter reading)

    • Meter errors

    • Difference in usage days.

    IAWC bills out on a consistent basis. Our utility meter reads don’t always correspond to the same schedule.
