Search tips:
- This form will search for words in the title OR the description. If you would like to search for the same term(s) across both the title and description, enter the same search term(s) in both fields.
- This form will search for any of the words you enter in a field, not the exact phrase you enter. If you would like to search for an exact phrase, put double quotes (") around the phrase. For example, if you search for Bike Path you will get results containing either the word Bike OR the word Path, but if you search for "Bike Path" you will get results containing the exact phrase Bike Path.

RE: Enerdrape design and installation
Associated Project(s):Hi Mark,
I am going to assign an SSC project to you as the PM to take it through design and construction. The construction can be done through Contractor Services, so this would normally go to a Planner. However, it will be in an existing Steam Tunnel, so it is very much a UES project, and will need to have coordination with Frank C. and Mike L. Some older emails about this project are attached here, and I’ll get it set up in FCPweb today.
Thanks,
Morgan
---------------------
Hi Morgan. I have a few questions. So The Dept. of Mechanical Engineering (Aman Mehta) requested funds from SSC for these panels? And the only reason Utilities is involved is because these will be their steam tunnels? I’m not familiar with SSC projects.
Also, I’m not optimistic about hiring a PSC for $10,000 (the amount listed in their info).. Especially if the participation goals are to be met. I assume this will be a RWO or do you know if Enerdrape provides those services for their panels?
Will our office’s role be similar to some of the smaller natural gas projects I’ve done? Will there PM Fees? C&I Fees? Thanks.
Illini Lights Out Event 10/13/23
Associated Project(s):At Friday's Illini Lights Out event, 6,020 light bulbs were shut off that otherwise would have been left on all weekend, saving $915.91 in energy costs. This also prevented 7.238 metric tons of CO2 equivalent from entering the atmosphere, which is equivalent to the greenhouse gas emissions from 828 gallons of gasoline being consumed.
The balance bikes used for 'Learn How to Ride a Bike' event were returned on 10/16/2023.
Associated Project(s):After the 'Learn How to Ride a Bike' event held on October 7th 2023, the 2 balance bikes used were stored at the Campus Bike Center. They were returned to Jeff Yockey on October, 16th 2023, by Sarthak Prasad and I (Tushar).

Molten Salt Energy Storage
Associated Project(s):Hi.
Have we been looking at this as an option for storing solar energy?

70/80 building dashboards complete!
Associated Project(s):Currently, 70 of the first 80 building dashboards are complete, which represents 92% of the University's energy consumption. Many of the dashboards are visible on building video displays for all building occupants to view. They continue to vet the data streams and will add more dashboards as they continue our efforts in the future. We contract Hawkeye Energy Solutions to develop and maintain the dashboards.
TED Talk: Eco Edition Series - September 2023
Associated Project(s):September's TED Talk: Eco-Edition discussion was hosted by iSEE Greener Campus Intern, Lina Avalos. Avalos gave a powerful presentation on the subject of environmental justice, diving into the basics of the subject, as well as her own personal experience with E-J growing up in Chicago.
If you missed the discussion or would like to reference any materials Avalos presented, see the attached file.
iSEE's TED Talk: Eco-Edition series will be back in November for a discussion on recycling!

Project Update - Green Roof on LCLB
Associated Project(s):Note - The Foreign Language Building (FLB) has been renamed to Literatures, Cultures and Linguistics Building (LCLB).
Green roof trees are scheduled to be installed in the spring of 2024.
Project Update - Plantings at Dorner Drive retention pond
Associated Project(s):Mowing at the Dorner Drive retention pond is restricted. Brent Lewis has hired an external ecologist for targeted herbicide spot spraying in this area, and this process is currently underway.
Project Update - Meadow at Orchard Downs
Associated Project(s):This project is in progress, with the primary challenge being the insufficient number of participants to maintain the meadow. One proposed solution under consideration is to engage students through fieldwork.
There is a prospect for collaboration between the iCAP Education and iCAP Land and Water teams to develop a course that would involve students in the maintenance of the meadow.
Project Update - Sustainability Unit in Engineering 100
Associated Project(s):The proposed project will not proceed as initially planned due to the challenges associated with implementing a 100-level course. However, it is being reconsidered and might take on a different form, possibly by mandating new students to obtain a sustainability certificate. The iCAP Education team is actively exploring various alternative options.
Developing and sending out the sustainability literacy assessment will play a role in shaping this project.
Project Update - Sustainability in Study Abroad
Associated Project(s):The recommendation for Sustainability in Study Abroad has been approved!
The stakeholders identified for this project include the Illinois Abroad Council Steering Committee, Environmental Sustainability Study Abroad Working Group, and representatives from study abroad programs in each college.
The forthcoming steps involve a collaborative effort to establish policies and procedures with these stakeholders.
Project Update - Green Career Fair
Associated Project(s):The Green Career Fair is in the process of development, with a scheduled date of February 27th 2024, at the Illini Union Ballroom.
The iCAP Education team has prioritized this project for the fall semester of 2023. We are currently in the process of finalizing the event's name and determining the list of invited companies.

LW005 SFC Permeable Pavers - Declined
Associated Project(s):The following response was received from John Marquardt on October 16, 2023:
Good Afternoon,
Thank you for the recommendation to install permeable surfaces in the State Farm Center parking lots. I am pleased to report that State Farm Center has recently resurfaced two of its lots with permeable pavements, the SE Lot following the renovation of State Farm Center in 2016, and most recently the NE lot in 2021.
Project specifications from the most recent lot renovation list the following description and statistics about how this project (and the SE project in 2016) addressed permeability concerns of the lots:
“A total of approximately 12,500 square feet of permeable pavement was installed in the NE lot. As detailed on the plans, the pavement section will include a consistent 5” of porous asphalt on top of variable thickness permeable aggregate (varying from 8” to 24”). A single 12” underdrain will run the entire length of permeable pavement patch, and a controlled 6” outlet pipe will be connected to the existing and adjacent 36” storm sewer via a new manhole. While soil types in this area will only allow for very minimal infiltration, the drainage rock will provide enough inherent storage to detain the 1-year, 1-hour storm event. The available storage is approximately 7,000 CU FT and the storm runoff volume for this event is 6,775 CU FT. “
State Farm Center will be resurfacing the NW and SW parking lots in 2025 as part of planned and budgeted R&R operations. We fully anticipate that these projects will be completed with similar specifications to ensure that they are environmentally conscious with regard to permeability and other factors.
Thank you for your time and concern.
