Search tips:
- This form will search for words in the title OR the description. If you would like to search for the same term(s) across both the title and description, enter the same search term(s) in both fields.
- This form will search for any of the words you enter in a field, not the exact phrase you enter. If you would like to search for an exact phrase, put double quotes (") around the phrase. For example, if you search for Bike Path you will get results containing either the word Bike OR the word Path, but if you search for "Bike Path" you will get results containing the exact phrase Bike Path.

can you please share that slide showing the waste transfer mural wall?
Associated Project(s):Hi Daphne,
Please see my request in the subject line.
Also, based on our costs, I’m looking at about $62 a SF. So for a 12’ by 8’ installation, we’re looking at roughly $6,000 total. Given that they will have to install up higher, and the installation of panels might not be directly mounted, but more of a strut system, braced on either side of the metal shed, I’d just go a bit higher to $8000 for an ask.
I ran this past ARC, and we didn’t have any issues with this idea. We just want to be involved with approval. Everything that I talked about this morning seemed good with them.
Thanks!
Brent Lewis

EMS Controls (David Hardin’s group) is working on a controls upgrade at Micro Nano. I am trying to connect Ayush (cc’d) with someone who can discuss the engineering on the ESCO project and potential ECM’s that were evaluated but ultimately not included in the project. Are you a good contact for this or should I reach out to GBA (Mike/Tim)?
Thanks,
Amber Perfetti
-------------------------
Amber,
I think Mike would be best. I don’t have access to any of the work we did with ESG. Maybe Jim C can help as well ?

Hey Amber,
Thanks for getting this conversation started. Can you share Mike and Jim’s email ID’s? I can try contacting them.
Thank you,
Ayush

Dear Jim and Mike,
EMS Controls (David Hardin’s group) is working on a controls upgrade project at Micro Nano. Is there someone with whom we can discuss the potential ECM’s that were evaluated but ultimately not included in the ESCO project?
Thank you,

Associated Project(s):Beckman currently uses reusable trays, plates, and glasses in their cafe. They currently have a dishwasher onsite and will have a larger one in the new project (U22005 Beckman Café Renovation). They also have a stack of plastic and Styrofoam containers on the line as people move through the food ordering line, so improvements could be made here to nudge people towards the reusable options.

WPP Building 1258 geothermal metering system installation request
Associated Project(s):Good morning,
Here is what I found.
Al
--------------------
Hi Robbie,
Here are the engineering documents and pictures of the heat pumps. There are 5 heat pumps.
Andy
-------------------
Team,
Here's another geothermal system needing to be metered. It appears to need both ST, RT temperature RTD, and flow meter installation and tied into alpha controller and programming.
Thanks.
Robbie Bauer
----------------------------
Andrew,
The team surveyed it this week and a meter is planned to be installed shortly. I’ll keep you updated.
-----------------------------
Hi Yu-Feng,
Robbie Bauer from F&S is finishing the meter install on the last geothermal system on campus. So going forward we will have access to data from all the systems. At the very least, inlet and outlet temperature, flow rate, and energy going into the borefield will be collected. Robbie is interested in calculating the annual energy avoidance for each system.
Best,
Andy

Thanks for the update.

UIUC/CUMTD for faculty and staff commuting
Associated Project(s):Hello Sarthak!
Our VC for administrative has asked me to compile examples of University-subsidized public transit for faculty and staff commuting. I’m familiar with UIUC’s free transit for students, faculty, and staff. I believe students pay a fee each semester, and transit is a free benefit for faculty and staff.
Is there a formal agreement in place between CUMTD and UIUC I can reference, or a budgeting policy? I’m specifically interested in any costs to UIUC and whether that expense funded entirely from the student fee or subsidized elsewhere in the budget.
This is somewhat time sensitive, let me know if you have time for a quick call this afternoon or Monday.
Best,
Matt Rundquist

Hi Stacey,
For UIUC faculty and staff, there is a department that funds for the MTD bus pass, right? Could you please confirm? Thank you,

Weekly capstone meetings: Meeting from 3/29 and 4/5
Associated Project(s):Meeting from 4/5/2023
Summary: Ethan and Sarthak met via zoom where they discussed the work on the plan that Ethan has done so far. They also discussed the thorough plan for the next year to describe to the stakeholders, in regard to their involvement with the 2024 plan. Ethan is expected to respond to stakeholders by next week, add onto the plan (mainly the executive summary, goals & objectives, introduction, and planning process sections). Ethan will send Sarthak separate emails about his Urban Planning presentation on their work for school, and request for GIS information.
Meeting from 3/29/2023
Summary: Ethan and Sarthak met briefly via zoom (Ethan was out of town dealing with a family emergency so there was not much to discuss). Ethan is expected to make a Google Sheet with stakeholders' information and responses, a sheet of timeline for the planning process, and a document for the 2024 plan.
Attached Files:Professor Yu-Feng Lin Featured on 'Wired' Article
Associated Project(s):UIUC's Yu-Feng Lin was featured on a "wired" article. Andrew Stumpf explains, "The authors did a simulation for a residential district in Chicago. They don’t provide much detail about the geology and hydrogeology that is the basis for the geotechnical model. In Chicago, aquifer thermal energy storage (ATES) has yet to be used because groundwater is pretty scarce in the shallow subsurface and one would need to tap aquifers deeper in the bedrock. In the northern and western suburbs, the subsurface conditions in the glacial deposits is much better and I believe Kane County is looking into using the aquifers for a geothermal resource."
