  1. iCAP Portal Admin Meeting - September 6, 2024

      • How do we get to archived projects?
        • Michael will add a link to the Administration page
      • Have we discussed when/why we would archive projects? Is there specific criteria?

        • For now, done on a case-by-case basis
    • iCAP Portal embedding in other websites

    Light the Night
    1. Reclaim Your Abandoned Bike
      Facilities & Services impounded 262 abandoned bicycles on campus this summer. If your bike is one of those and you want it back, email bike@illinois.edu and include where it was located, the make/model, color, and serial number, if possible. Bike registration information or other documentation will be needed to prove ownership (e.g., pictures). Retrieving a bicycle will require an active bike registration per the University Bicycle Ordinance. There is also a $40 retrieval fee that supports bike collection efforts. This year's reclaim deadline is Monday, Sept. 30. 
    2. Celebrate Bike to Work Day on September 18 and Receive a Free T-Shirt
      Ride your bike to campus on Wednesday, Sept. 18, and get a free t-shirt! Welcome stations will be set up across the area from 7 – 10 a.m., including eight U of I locations. Celebrate Champaign County Bike to Work Day with others by stopping in for refreshments and snacks. You must bring your bicycle and pre-register at https://go.fs.illinois.edu/BiketoWorkDay to get the shirt!
    3. Light the Night – Free Bike Light Giveaway
      The 17th annual Light the Night is Thursday, Sept. 19, from 4 to 7 p.m., at Alma Mater Plaza, Hallene Gateway, and Ikenberry Commons Quad. You MUST bring your bike to get a light set. Approximately 1,000 bike light sets will be available this year. Remember, bike lights are required by Illinois law when riding at night. If you would like to volunteer for this event, please sign up here.
    4. Register your bicycle
      Bicycle registration is mandatory for all bicycles parked or operated on campus and owned by students, staff, faculty, University departments, and community members. There is a one-time $10 registration fee per bicycle. All bicycle registrants will enter a raffle for a chance to win a U-lock or a Helmet. Learn more about the bicycle registration raffle.   3. Weekly Update: Build-a-Bike

    All, Busy as can be last week. We’re sold out of refurbished bikes and have only a handful of Build-a-Bikes available. We have 3 new hires in the pipeline, which’ll help. Meanwhile, this week is absolutely perfect riding weather—hope folks are getting out there!

    Our newer B-a-B model of handling some of the harder repairs has really helped accessibility to the program. With 3 this week alone, that’s more than we sometimes get completed in 6 months. Lowering barriers of entry is always a good thing!

  4. CEE 449 Water Sampling Report - Spring 2024

    Zero Waste iCAP Team

    In Spring 2024, a CEE 449 course conducted water quality testing from campus buildings (FAR, ISR, Union, CIF). The testing found that lead and copper levels in the water samples from campus buildings were well below EPA standards for safe drinking water. The final report is attached.

  8. UIUC Campus welcome stations for Bike to Work Day

  10. YMCA Dump & Run Numbers

    During the Aug. 5 - Aug. 17 collections we had roughly 280 donation drop offs (increased over last year by about 30)

    • We conducted 39 furniture pickups on the two Saturdays
    • 118 volunteers worked 980 hours over the three weeks between collecting, sorting, pricing, the Big Sale and cleanup (7 more volunteers and 170 more hours than last year)
    • 12 staff members, including myself, contributed 267 hours at the Stock Pavilion
    • Roughly 3,700 people attended the Big Sale over the weekend, including at least 1,000 students (probably much more), compared to an estimated 2,500 total last year
    • The Big Sale grossed a little over $29,000, well past our budget goals, and an increase over last year (just under 23k)
    • What little that was left, which wasn't much, was mostly either recycled or donated to Salt & Light for additional reuse.

    Overall it was an excellent and incredibly smooth year!

  17. Update from 8/19/2024

    Fleet Replacement Plans

    Morgan, Pete, Shawn, Neil, Sarthak, Stacey, and Quinn met on 8/19/2024 to discuss the current status and next steps for the Fleet Replacement Plan. F&S Transportation & Building Services (TBS) team is working on a fleet audit tool, which is expected to roll out (pilot) by the end of fall 2024 semester. Sarthak, Shawn, and Neil will reach out to Prairie Research Institute (PRI) for another discussion about the Fleet Replacement Plan for their fleet. Following the audit tool's roll out, we will begin reaching out to other units on campus.

  18. Weekly Update: Students are back, Build-a-Bike

    All, I know students are back when bikes start selling without a test ride. You can only lead a horse to water…

    We’ll likely sell out of bikes this week. So, we’ll scramble to get a few more on the sales floor. And of course, always mention our Build-a-Bike program!

    All, Slow week. Not a lot of visitors, not a lot of bikes sold. Should be able to get a couple more bikes on the sales floor today, as we’re down to 10 or so bikes available.

      • Quinn reported that iCAP Moderators had lost View access to items marked Private
      • This likely happened during a module update Michael made a few months ago
      • It has been fixed; let Michael know if any other permissions appear to be incorrect!
    • Archiving projects (see last week's discussion):
      • Show archival status as part of project title (e.g. Sustainability iCAP Portal [ARCHIVED])
        • " [ARCHIVED]" automatically appended to title for Archived projects
        • " [ARCHIVED]" automatically removed from Active projects
      • Hid archived projects from Sub-Projects listing
      • Hid archived projects from Related Projects listing

    Discussion

    • Archiving projects:
      • How do we feel about directly editing the title rather than appending a tag, like we do with Project Status?
        • Pros:
          • Archival status impossible to ignore - it always appears without Michael having to explicitly include it in a particular display
        • Cons:
          • Archival status always appears as part of the title - would there be times we want to display the title without the archival status?
          • Would we like the archival status to display differently, like the Project Status?
        • Decision: the group liked inserting the archival status directly into the project's title. We do not foresee problems with this approach down the road.
      • How do we feel about hiding the archived projects from Sub-projects and Related Projects listings?
        • Cleans up the listings from archived projects
        • Makes it harder to find archived projects in the hierarchy
        • Decision: this look good for now; we can revisit later if needed
    • Bike Fee funding
      • Morgan, Sarthak, Michael, and Stacey DeLorenzo will meet to discuss further
    • SSC Projects
      • SSC Projects management transferring from Codie to Sheri
      • Students will continue adding SSC Projects in earnest in the coming weeks
    • Finding items created by a specific person:
      • Find the person's profile page
      • Click the "Track" link to see all items they've created (won't show things they've updated that were created by someone else)
    • Morgan: after porting info to SSC Projects, what will happen to the iCAP Portal projects which existed solely to capture SSC funding info?
      • Will handle on a case-by-case basis, but most will likely be archived
    • SSC Project reports before 2012
      • SSC did not require reports on recipients' use of funds before about 2012
      • Some groups did proactively provide reports; may reach out to other groups to inquire whether they have reports to share
      • Morgan collected all the older reports she could find and shared them in Box
      • Other reports may have been uploaded to the iCAP Portal; some sleuthing may be required to find them, e.g.:
