Resilience

The Resilience theme aims to strengthen our communities in the face of environmental challenges such as severe weather events, extreme temperatures, and other climate change-related phenomena. Though Champaign, Urbana, Savoy, and the university are independent entities, our Resilience efforts recognize that we are all stronger when functioning as one collaborative unit. In 2019, the Resilience iCAP Team formed as a result of University Chancellor Jones and the Mayors of Champaign and Urbana signing a joint climate resilience proclamation, and it now includes a Savoy representative. As one of the first teams of its kind, the Resilience Team directly connects university researchers, faculty, and students with community representatives to develop effective and equitable resilience actions and plans. Our university conducts research in communities all over the world, and here in the Resilience theme, we seek to address concerns and vulnerabilities in our own communities so that we are better prepared for future climate change impacts.
